*At 6:00 pm there will be a brief 10 minute ceremony on the stage, followed by the Niagara Falls going to dark for 15 minutes (6:10-6:25pm).

*The new and improved lighting will turn on at 6:25 pm with a fireworks display at 6:30 pm!

*Also at 6:30 pm is a concert by the Repartee Band. This is a band from St. John's, NL. Initially started by Warren, Repartee became fully formed in 2012 with the additions of Robbie Brett (guitars), Nick Coultas-Clarke (drums) and Josh Banfield (keys). In 2012, they won five MusicNL Awards, and in 2013 they were nominated for an East Coast Music Award for Rising Star.

“The Illumination Board is tremendously proud of the role it plays in the tourism industry in Niagara,” stated Mark Thomas, Chair of the Niagara Falls Illumination Board. “We were very fortunate to have community stakeholders on both sides of the border who have supported our vision since the project was first proposed. The improvement to the nightly illumination of the Falls will encourage visitation to Niagara and we appreciate the stakeholders recognizing the importance of the project for the destination.”

Currently, the Niagara Falls are lit using Xenon lighting technology. It has been almost 20 years since the last major lighting investment was made.

Expect to see something spectacular! Proposed upgrades include more than twice the current lighting levels on the Falls. This includes programmable lighting opportunities and a more robust colour spectrum. This new lighting system will eliminate dark gaps, while making it more energy-efficient and reduce maintenance costs.

Established in 1925, the Niagara Falls Illumination Board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, the City of Niagara Falls, New York, Ontario Power Generation Inc., the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Niagara Parks Commission. It is the Illumination Board's responsibility and mandate to finance and maintain the nightly illumination of noth the Horseshoe and American Falls.
