Majestic Monarchs in front of the Butterfly Conservatory
Saturday, September 20th & Sunday, September 21st, 2025
11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
The Majestic Monarchs annual tag and release program takes place on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st in front of the Butterfly Conservatory, within the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture. Join us for a unique, family-friendly experience to celebrate one of nature’s most incredible migrations and witness the full life cycle of Monarch butterflies, from caterpillar to chrysalis to butterfly.
The program includes hourly live demonstrations of Monarch tagging, followed by the release of these remarkable creatures into the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens as they embark on their epic migration south toward Mexico. This free educational event will take place in front of the Butterfly Conservatory. Tag and release demonstrations will take place every hour, starting at 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM (while supplies last).
Monarchs are iconic orange, black and white butterflies classified as a “species of special concern” under Ontario’s Endangered Species Act. Learn how you can help with conservation efforts and take part in monarch tagging demonstrations and releases as the monarchs begin their incredible journey south.
Note: This is a rain or shine event. Release times may vary depending on weather.
