What’s Open in Niagara Falls Starting March 2022

Reading Time:  7 minutes -

This winter, the Clifton Hill promenade will continue to be a vital part of the Niagara Falls experience. Though most people think of our street as a summer attraction, there are plenty of intriguing locations to choose from in the winter. We like to think of ourselves as a “year-round” location, with a large variety of indoor activities to keep you warm and comfortable.

March 1st, 2022

Ontario has relaxed capacity limits in all indoor public locations and removed the necessity for proof of immunization as of March 1, 2022. In Niagara Falls, hotels, restaurants, casinos, and attractions are all open for business. All indoor spaces and some outdoor attractions still require masks.

  • All operations can go to full capacity.
  • No vaccine passport is required at any operation
    • Though some individual operators may choose to continue.
  • No contact tracing is required
  • No active guest screening is required
  • The mask mandate is still in effect but there will be some medical exceptions in alignment with provincial and regional guidance
  • Staff are still required to wear a face covering
  • Staff will actively be screened for Covid, including a temperature check at the start of their shift.

Niagara Falls’ top priority is to keep workplaces, employees, and visitors safe. Key public health measures have been implemented, and we all bear responsibility for staying informed, being prepared, being flexible, and adhering to health and safety rules.

These venues should be on your mind this winter while visiting Niagara Falls. For more information, we recommend that visitors consult the most recent COVID-19 legislation, individual business websites, and social media accounts, as conditions might change without warning.

Canada-US Border

NEW 2-28-2022: The molecular PCR test (Up to $225.00 USD) is no longer necessary for entry into Canada. The less priced antigen test ($40-65 USD) will be accepted starting Monday, February 28th, 2022. The test must be taken 24 hours prior to arrival and the results must be negative. Antigen test results are usually available in 15 minutes or less.

All persons aged five and up must provide a negative antigen test result acquired 24 hours prior to entering Canada, and all US citizens must provide proof of vaccination. Vaccinations are not required for children under the age of 12. A paid testing center is located near the Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, New York, USA.

Learn more about the requirements for entering Canada

Install the ArriveCan APP on your mobile device before attempting to enter Canada.

Traveling to the United States by land does not require Canadians to present a negative Covid test result at the US border. A negative PCR or antigen test result will be acceptable when returning to Canada. It’s important to remember that the antigen test must be done 24 hours before crossing, not 72 hours.

NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES & COVID:
In Niagara Falls, New York, there are presently no Covid restrictions. When travelling to the United States by land, a Covid test is not required. Niagara Falls, New York, is located in Niagara County, which does not have a mask mandate or require proof of vaccination in order to attend public areas.

On both sides of Niagara Falls, several attractions may still require the use of a mask (ie; elevators). If you want to be safe, carry one with you!

What’s Open On Clifton Hill For Winter Holidays

Reading Time:  8 minutes -

The Clifton Hill promenade is a major facet of the Niagara Falls Tourism experience this upcoming season. Though most people have always considered our street a Summer destination, Winter can be just as captivating with many exciting indoor venues to choose from. We like to think of ourselves as a “year round” destination with many inside activities to keep you warm and cozy.

While experiencing Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, these options should be at the top of your mind for the Holiday Season. We encourage that visitors reference the most current COVID-19 regulations, individual business websites and social media accounts for more details, as circumstances can shift without warning.

Effective October 25th, 2021 the government of Ontario released A Plan to Safely Reopen Ontario and Manage COVID-19 for the Long-Term.

This plan outlines Ontario’s cautious and gradual approach to lifting remaining public health and workplace safety measures by March 2022. It will be guided by the ongoing assessment of key public health and health care indicators and supported by local or regional tailored responses to COVID-19.

Effective October 25, 2021 at 12:01 a.m., capacity limits have been lifted in the vast majority of settings where proof of vaccination is required, such as:

  • restaurants, bars, and other food or drink establishments
  • indoor areas of sports and recreational facilities such as gyms and where personal physical fitness trainers provide instruction
  • casinos, bingo halls, and other gaming establishments
  • indoor meeting and event spaces

Limits will also be lifted in certain outdoor settings.

The government will also allow other settings to lift capacity limits and physical distancing requirements if they choose to require proof of vaccination, including:

  • indoor areas of museums, galleries, aquariums, zoos, science centres, landmarks, historic sites, botanical gardens and similar attractions
  • indoor areas of amusement parks
  • indoor areas of fairs, rural exhibitions, festivals
  • indoor tour and guide services

Proof of Vaccination

As of September 22, 2021, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination (two doses, plus 14 days) with photo ID is required to access the certain public settings and facilities, click here for full details.

Ontario also intends to allow for greater capacity at organized public events such as Remembrance Day ceremonies and Santa Claus parades with more details coming in the near future.

For Step 3: businesses can reopen indoor services, restaurant dining and attractions with capacity limits and health & safety guidelines in place, plus ensure a physical distance of 2m/6ft at all times (indoor and outdoor) for patrons and staff. Our local business units are taking the utmost care and precautionary measures to ensure safety protocols are in place and applied to ensure comfort for guests and locals alike.

Indoor and outdoor capacity limits are based on maintaining a physical distance of 2m/6ft apart.

Current Guidelines for Step Three:

  • Social gatherings and organized public events
    • Maximum 25 people indoors
    • Maximum 100 people outdoors
  • Face masks are mandatory in all indoor spaces in Niagara Falls and when maintaining a physical distance outdoors isn’t possible. Everyone should maintain a physical distance of 2m/6ft from others not in your group at all times. Face masks are required at some outdoor attractions, like Niagara City Cruises and Niagara Parks.

We take the current situation very seriously and want to ensure the health and safety of our customers and team members.

The Niagara Speedway Revs Up to an Action-Packed Start

Reading Time:  2 minutes -At 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 24th, 2018, the Niagara Speedway finally opened its doors to an excited crowd of travelers from all around the world ready to be part of the action. Since that day, things haven’t slowed down. We have seen crowds of people daily arrive at North America’s largest elevated go-kart track facility to test their driving skills, thanks to word of mouth advertising and all the media hype. Several media chains have linked us to being similar to “Mario Kart”, and while that definitely fueled the drive to our website views and to our establishment itself, we are in no way affiliated with this, but honoured with the comparison.

We are grateful for these first couple of months so far, and we look forward to seeing more potential growth in sales as the season progresses into the Fall. We will continue to remain open for as long as Mother Nature and business levels allow us to, and then re-open come the Spring. If the weather cooperates we could potentially keep running for part of the Winter (cross your fingers for a seasonally warm November/December). Stay up-to-date with our Hours of Operation, as it continues to get updated as each new month approaches.

Q: Where is the best place to view the Falls?

*Pictured Above: Autumn view from the observation deck at the bottom of Clifton Hill/Niagara Parkway*

A: There are a few places to get some one-of-a-kind views of the Falls with the most popular viewpoints being:

Skylon Tower

Journey Behind the Falls

Hornblower Niagara Cruises

Niagara Helicopters

Niagara SkyWheel

Tablerock Welcome Centre

Q: What are some of the best trails to hike in Niagara Falls in the Fall?

*Pictured Above: A section along the Bruce Trail*

A: Get out your camera, proper footwear and clothing to fully appreciate and explore Niagara and the beauty of Fall along these most popular trails:

The Bruce Trail:

The Bruce Trail stretches 773 kilometres (480 miles) from Queenston Heights in the south, to Tobermory at the northern end of the Bruce Peninsula. The trail follows the cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment, a ribbon of near wilderness running through one of the most populated parts of the country. The place is also renowned for Niagara’s famous vineyards and wineries. It is rich in plants, bird life, animals, and history. The Bruce Trail is rugged in many places, with picturesque waterfalls brimming along the route.

The Niagara Glen:

The Niagara Glen is spread across 4 km of trails and goes through the Carolinian Forest. There is a spectacular metal staircase at the steepest part of the gorge and probably its most popular attribute is that it overlooks the Niagara River Whirlpool. Paths of the Niagara Glen were carved from the cliff face some eight thousand years ago pass by a host of natural features like the mammoth pothole and Devils arch. It is a path full of ancient history, carvings and natural wonder.  For more information please call the Niagara Parks Nature Centre at 905-354-6678.

Ball’s Falls:

Ball’s Falls is suspended on the string of the Bruce Trail. This site is perched on the edge of the Niagara escarpment and features an operational mill, two waterfalls, numerous historic buildings, and lovely nature trails. It has been restored to its early 1800’s atmosphere, and features an operating flour mill, a lime kiln, a church, family home, blacksmith shop, carriage shed, and more.

Ball’s Falls is also home to the Thanksgiving Arts & Crafts Festival, now in its 41st year. This popular festival is included among the list of the best festivals in Niagara Falls in the Fall. Read more about it (and other upcoming Fall Festivals in Niagara) by clicking here.

To reach Ball’s Falls, exit the Queen Elizabeth Way at Vineland. Follow Victoria Avenue (Highway 24) south to Regional Road 24, where you turn eastward and travel to Ball’s Falls.

Niagara River Recreation Trail:

The Niagara River Recreation Trail meanders through some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Running alongside the Niagara Parkway, the Niagara River Recreation Trail is a paved path for nonmotorized traffic stretching some 58 kilometers along the Canadian side of the Niagara River. From Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake in the north, it extends almost the full length of the peninsula, ending in the north end of the Town of Fort Erie.

Taking a stroll, a run, or a bike ride along the Niagara Parkway is one of the “7 Awe-Inspiring Places To View The Fall Colours In Niagara“.

Visit  www.niagaragreenbelt.com for more information on Niagara’s best trails.

Famous Ghost Pictures: Real or Fake?

Reading Time:  4 minutes -Pictured Above: “The Brown Lady”. Almost everyone has seen this picture at one time or another. It is among one of the most famous ghost pictures taken and appears to be authentic. This photo was taken on September 19th, 1936 at 4 P.M. during a photo shoot for Country Life Magazine at Raynham Hall in Norfolk, England. The photographer saw the mist and took the photo and this was the result. There have been many credible witnesses that have seen the same figure. What do you think?
In case you didn’t know, when you find yourself on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, we love a good fright! We have 5 “haunted houses” within only a few hundred feet from the two farthest ones. On Clifton Hill itself, we have “The Haunted House”, “Dracula’s Castle”, and the “House of Frankenstein”. Just around the corner at the top of the street you will find two more: “Screamers House of Horrors”, and probably the scariest of them all, “Nightmares Fear Factory“. We even have something for the little ones to enjoy like the Ghostblasters Dark Ride; ride through a “haunted hotel” and blast ghosts with laser guns:

Naturally, we love Halloween — Niagara has a lot of history with ghost stories and tales that come along with it. For that reason, we have a quite few ghost walks and tours available. Have a peak at the highlighted link to see what is still left to take part in!
In honour of Halloween, here’s some famous well-known ghost pictures. Are they real or fake? What do you think?
Ghost on Stairs

This was taken at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, London in 1966 by Canadian Clergyman Ralph Hardy. He saw nothing unusual at the time of taking the picture, but after the photo was developed, it looked liked a misty figure was pulling him or herself up the stairs. This incident is famously named the “Tulip Staircase Ghost.”
Ghost of Freddy Jackson

Easily among one of the top 5 well-known ghost pictures is this one of a group portrait of Sir Victor Goddard squadron which served in World War I aboard the HMS Daedalus. At the time of this picture, nothing seemed to be amiss — but upon receiving the photograph there seemed to be an extra face among the men. The man whose face is circled is that of Freddy Jackson, an air mechanic who had been accidentally killed by an airplane propeller and whose funeral was taking place on the very day the picture was taken.
 Boothill Cemetery Ghost

Take a look closely at the “Boothill Cemetery Ghost”. This photo was taken by Terry Ike Clanton who runs the www.TombstoneArizona.com website and is an actor, recording artist and poet. Clanton took this photo of his friend at the Boothill Cemetery. He had it shot in black & white to emulate the “old western days” type of photographs. When he picked up his photograph from his local Thrifty Drug Store, you can see clearly see an image of a man (lower right) that seems to either be kneeling or rising up out of the ground. Clanton insists that no one was there when the photograph is taken, and some believe they can see the image of a knife that the “ghost” is holding in a vertical position with the tip located just underneath his right collar. What do you think?
Toys “R” Us Ghost

I remember watching this story on Unsolved Mysteries years ago about a Toys “R” Us store located in Sunnyvale, California. This store had an onslaught of paranormal and poltergeist activity! This photo was taken with infrared film during an investigation with the late Psychic Sylvia Browne (foreground right). You can clearly see a man leaning up against the wall that was not there at the time and could not be seen in normal photographs. This Toys ‘R’ Us has a long history of being haunted by a ghost called “John” and store workers are used to see strange things happening, such as objects moving on their own.
You can read more about this ghost by clicking here.
 Madonna of Bachelor’s Grove Ghost

And lastly, another one of the most widely known ghost pictures is this one. This was taken during an investigation of Bachelor’s Grove cemetery near Chicago by the Ghost Research Society. This photograph occurred on August 10, 1991, at a small, abandoned graveyard near the suburb of Midlothian, Illinois. You can see the image of a ghostly lady. Reputed to be one of the most haunted cemeteries in the U.S., Bachelor’s Grove has been the site of well over 100 different reports of strange phenomena, including apparitions, unexplained sights and sounds, and even glowing balls of light.
What do you think? Genuine or tampered with?
For more information on the haunted houses or other Clifton Hill attractions, please feel free to email me at the address below. The Ghostblasters Dark Ride is also part of the Clifton Hill Fun Pass. See some of our attractions via this clip, and be sure to visit Clifton Hill for a haunting good time this Halloween — or any day of the year!

Niagara Falls One Night Getaway Package

Reading Time:  4 minutes -It’s the New Year and for a lot of us January is a tight month financially. Christmas has left us broke and the bills keep piling up anyways. January and February are the hottest times to fly to somewhere hot, but for those of you that would like to escape the Winter blues, but can’t afford to head on a one week tropical vacation, come and take advantage of our new Niagara Falls One Night Getaway Package. It’s the most inexpensive way to get away for a night with your loved one without burning a hole in your budget. You can also escape the pressures of booking time off work for a vacation or scrambling for a babysitter for long with this easy, affordable option.
This package is offered on Friday or Saturday nights only (excluding Holiday long weekends and March Break) and could be the perfect pre or post-Valentine’s Day gift! Niagara Falls has always been known as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World” for a reason — the majestic beauty of the Niagara Falls and the Niagara Parks that surround it, is the perfect setting for romance. The Niagara Falls One Night Getaway Package includes:
*One Night Accommodation at the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel which includes:

  • Complimentary “Your Morning Breakfast ” deluxe buffet each morning
  • Full use of our tropical indoor pool and giant whirlpool
  • Free High Speed Wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi) throughout the hotel
  • Free 24hr.access to the front lobby Internet Cafe which features high-speed internet, coffee, tea, printers, etc.
  • Prime location 1 block to the Falls!
  • Additional savings with Attraction, Food and Merchandise coupons.

*The Comfort Inn Clifton Hill is the prime location to easy access to the Falls. It is literally only a short 5 minute walk down Clifton Hill to one of the main lookout points of the Niagara Falls and the hotel is central to all Clifton Hill attractions —  with gorgeous balcony views of Canada’s largest observation wheel, the Niagara SkyWheel — which leads me to the next special offer that the Niagara Falls One Night Getaway Package contains….
*Two Niagara SkyWheel tickets

It’s the perfect perspective to view the Niagara Falls — the Niagara SkyWheel already sits high on Clifton Hill as it is, but then it soars you an additional 175 feet, to experience a once in a lifetime view of the Falls, the Niagara River, Clifton Hill…and the city! These tickets are good day or night, whether it’s cold or hot, through sunshine or sleet. Every gondola is enclosed and climate controlled for your comfort. Take in the spectacular view before or after dinner — because that too is included in this Niagara Falls One Night Getaway Package offer…
*$20.00 Dining Voucher at Boston Pizza Clifton Hill or Kelsey’s (on site)
Both of these restaurants offer an extensive menu of affordable options and something delicious for everyone to enjoy. Boston Pizza Clifton Hill is unique in that this is the only one located inside a massive entertainment and gaming facility. Over 300 arcade games are inside the same building, with 2 bars (each housing numerous tv’s continuously playing your favourite sports), and containing a full-lane bowling centre called Strike Rock N Bowl! It’s Niagara’s go-to place to sit down, relax and catch the game or to experience nightlife on another level compared to the typical restaurant or bar.

Choose Kelsey’s (on the corner of Clifton Hill and Victoria Av.) for a more laid-back atmosphere. Delicious menu items abound, drink specials and a place to unwind and socialize with your loved ones, family and friends are the reason to choose this particular Kelsey’s. It’s a friendly place, with windows all along the one side of the building overlooking the exciting lights and action of the Clifton Hill streetscape. The warmer months see nightly entertainment on the patio that offers plenty of seating. The beauty of choosing Kelsey’s as part of the Niagara Falls One Night Package Getaway, is that it is connected to the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel. No need to even leave the hotel if the weather isn’t up to par! And renting a car? Absolutely no need with this package offer. Everything is located just steps away!

This is the package to choose for an inexpensive one night getaway. Whether it be for a romantic night, or simply to get away and unwind, it’s the ideal package.
