Alessia Cara Live in Niagara Falls

Reading Time:  2 minutes -

Niagara Falls Tourism partners with Alessia Cara to bring live music back to Canada’s top destination and promote tourism to the city. Alessia Cara, 2018 Grammy winner (Best New Artist) and Ontario-born singer/songwriter, and her band showcase Niagara Falls with an incredible series of live performances at iconic locations within the destination. The video production includes Alessia’s two newest releases, “Sweet Dream” and “Shapeshifter”, and three never-before-heard original recordings of her biggest hits. Audiences will also be treated to exclusive personal interviews with Alessia sharing her memories of coming to Niagara Falls, the stories behind her music, and more.

TV Premiere August 28 @ 7pm

The production will air on Rogers’ CityTV channel throughout Ontario, and in the cities of Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. Alessia Cara Live from Niagara Falls airs right before the NEW 8pm episode of Bachelor in Paradise.

The execution for this live performance was a coordinated effort by Niagara Falls Tourism with advertising agency Zerotrillion, production company Nordest, and Alessia Cara’s management team as part of a larger production to promote tourism in Niagara Falls, Canada. Proudly presented in partnership with funding provided by the Tourism Partnership of Niagara and the Government of Ontario.

Niagara Falls Tourism President and CEO, Janice Thomson said of the live-performance, “This partnership was a match made in heaven. To have Alessia bring her new music to our destination as the kick-off to the recovery of Niagara Falls’ tourism sector gives us so much energy. Ontario tourism supporting Ontario live music and film industries is successful for all.”

Niagara Falls Tourism Chairman, Joel Noden, said “Niagara Falls is the entertainment capital of Canada, and we’re ready to deliver the memorable tourism experiences the destination has been known for decades.” Further, President of the Tourism Partnership of Niagara, Anthony Annunziata added, “We are thrilled to partner with Niagara Falls Tourism on the launch of Alessia Cara’s new single. We couldn’t be more proud of working with Canadian talent like Alessia Cara here in Niagara Falls.”

In the Media

Alessia Cara launched her freshly debuted single “Sweet Dream” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on July 19 with a performance filmed in Niagara Falls.

In the live-filmed performance Alessia begins solo in a thematic bedroom setting, shortly to reveal to the audience that she’s in fact aboard Niagara City Cruises, Canada’s #1 tourism attraction, by stepping out through a curtain onto the lower deck. The camera follows Alessia as she emphatically delivers her vocal lines, walking a well-choreographed journey to the upper deck where she joins her band (legendary musical director, Dan Kanter) to bring the song home with the stunning illuminated Canadian Horseshoe Falls as the backdrop.

The track was released July 15th, and this was the first live performance of the song to hit the airwaves from Alessia Cara’s yet untitled forthcoming studio album. Showcased alongside “Sweet Dream”, a live performance of “Shapeshifter” filmed in Niagara Parks’ historic Oakes Garden Theatre was also shared to Stephen Colbert’s social channels.

On Friday, July 23rd, Alessia performed an acoustic version of Sweet Dream live from Niagara Falls in a bonus video filmed during the Niagara Falls Tourism Production. The video was aired on MTV Fresh Out Live to a global audience, and the video is now available online.

What’s Open In Niagara Falls this Week

Reading Time:  6 minutes -

Consider these great options to safely experience Clifton Hill, the city of Niagara Falls and the surrounding region. We encourage that visitors reference the most current COVID-19 regulations, individual business websites and social media accounts for more details, as circumstances can shift without warning.

Ontario is currently in Step Three of the Roadmap to Reopen

For Step 3: businesses can reopen indoor services, restaurant dining and attractions with capacity limits and health & safety guidelines in place, plus ensure a physical distance of 2m/6ft at all times (indoor and outdoor) for patrons and staff. Our local business units are taking the utmost care and precautionary measures to ensure safety protocols are in place and applied to ensure comfort for guests and locals alike.

Indoor and outdoor capacity limits are based on maintaining a physical distance of 2m/6ft apart.

Current Guidelines for Step Three:

  • Social gatherings and organized public events
    • Maximum 25 people indoors
    • Maximum 100 people outdoors
  • Face masks are mandatory in all indoor spaces in Niagara Falls and when maintaining a physical distance outdoors isn’t possible. Everyone should maintain a physical distance of 2m/6ft from others not in your group at all times. Face masks are required at some outdoor attractions, like Niagara City Cruises and Niagara Parks.

We take the current situation very seriously and want to ensure the health and safety of our customers and team members.

Niagara Falls Celebrates the 210th Anniversary of Paraguay’s Independence

Reading Time:  < 1 minute

Niagara Falls will be illuminated with the national colors of Paraguay this Friday, as a tribute to the Republic of Paraguay’s Independence for the past 210 years. The show can be seen through our Niagara Falls cam page.

For the first time in history, Niagara Falls will wear the colors of the Paraguayan flag – red, white and blue – in a special tribute to the national holiday of Paraguay. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) through its social networks. As mentioned, “on the occasion of the 210th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Paraguay, the Embassy of Paraguay in Canada is pleased to invite you to see, for the first time, the live lighting of Niagara Falls with the colors of the National Flag of Paraguay.”

The colors of the tricolor will illuminate the natural wonder:
Friday, May 14, at 9:45 p.m. (local time) for about 15 minutes.
Watch lighting for 15 minutes through the live camera link:
https://www.cliftonhill.com/niagara-falls/livecam

In addition, those in Canada will be able to access the park to see the lighting live. Attendees are asked to follow established health guidelines to avoid coronavirus infections.

According to the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, it is reported that, due to the logistics of lighting of the Falls, the red, white and blue national flag colours will be projected vertically.

Niagara Falls Illuminated in Blue For Doctors’ Day

Reading Time:  2 minutes -

Niagara Falls’ Illumination Board confirmed it will be lighting both the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls in blue, the evening of May 1 from 9 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., to show appreciation for doctors on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Doctors’ Day occurs every year in Canada on May 1 and is a time to highlight and celebrate doctors’ expertise and dedication to patient care. With this year’s Doctors’ Day falling in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, the OMA is initiating the special light shining moment called ‘Shine A Light For All They Do’ so Ontarians can come together, from a distance, and participate in celebrating doctors.

“Ontario has been celebrating Doctors’ Day for many years to recognize the many ways doctors lead us to better health. This year on Doctors’ Day, we wanted to do something special to recognize how doctors prepared for COVID, manage through COVID, and getting ready for the next waves of COVID, all while taking care of their patients,” said Dr. Sohail Gandhi, OMA President. “Shining a light has become a universal way of expressing gratitude for those leading the way out of crises.”

At 9:00 p.m. Ontarians are asked to turn on the flashlight on their phones and hold it high, through their window, from their balcony, front porch or driveway, for about five minutes.

Ontarians can also participate by posting their appreciation to social media using the hashtags #DoctorsDay and #ShineALightForThem. There’s also a website: doctorsday.ca where people can access shareable social media content and pledge their participation in the light shining event on May 1.

All special illumination requests are reviewed and approved by the Niagara Falls Illumination Board, which has financed and operated the “illumination of Niagara Falls” since 1925. The Niagara Falls Illumination Board is made up of representatives from the City of Niagara Falls Ontario, City of Niagara Falls, New York, Ontario Power Generation Inc., New York Power Authority, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and The Niagara Parks Commission. It is the Illumination Board’s responsibility and mandate to finance and maintain the nightly illumination of both the Horseshoe and American Falls.

Maid of the Mist Launches for 2021!

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

First full season for “2021 Ship of the Year” all-electric vessels

(Niagara Falls, N.Y., U.S.A.) – Electricity was in the air on Thursday, Apr 29, at 9 a.m., when the James V. Glynn and Nikola Tesla set sail to commence the Maid of the Mist’s 2021 season, its 136th consecutive year of operation. The all-electric, zero-emission vessels, the only ones of their kind in the United States, will ferry guests to the base of the American and Horseshoe falls, providing them with an iconic experience unlike any other.

Two leading maritime publications, American Ship Review and Marine News, both named the new vessels “Ship of the Year” for 2021.

“This promises to be another memorable year for our guests,” said Maid of the Mist President Christopher M. Glynn. “This will be the first full season for our new vessels which move silently, taking people closer to nature. You can hear the birds; you can hear the falls without any engine noise. It is a new and thrilling experience.”

The lithium-ion batteries are recharged in seven minutes between tours while the vessels are docked. “We literally plug them in,” Glynn said. “I think people will find that process fascinating to watch.”

A new feature of the voyage, available only on Maid of the Mist, comes on the return trip from the Horseshoe falls when the vessel stops again in front of the American falls and completes a 360-degree revolution, a maneuver made possible through the bow thruster propulsion system.
COVID-19 continues to have an impact on operations. Maid of the Mist tours will operate at reduced capacity. The Maid of the Mist Density Reduction Plan, which is extensive in its approach to health and safety, first implemented in June 2020, will remain in place. It includes:

  • All visitors will be required to wear a face covering as a condition of admission.
  • Before arriving at the ticket window, guests will be required to orderly que six feet apart unless they are with household members.
  • Only one party at a time will be permitted to approach each of the ticket booths. Hand sanitizer will be available for visitors.
  • Countertops and credit card keypads will be sanitized after each transaction.
  • All hand railings and visitor touch points will be sanitized on a regular basis.
  • Guests will be reminded about social distancing when they board the vessel.
  • Distance markers are located throughout the facility.

Since 1846 and non-stop since 1885, Maid of the Mist vessels powered by steam and diesel engines, and now electric motors, have carried millions of passengers to the base of Niagara Falls for a unique, up-close view of one of the wonders of the world.

Maid of the Mist is the longest continuously running tourist attraction in North America, operating out of Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the U.S.

Adult tickets are $25.25; child tickets (6–12 years) $14.75; children 5 and under are free with accompanying adult. Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets online at https://store.maidofthemist.com.
