Mike Patton is known for his unforeseen collaborations; and the 'unanticipated alchemy' of AVTT/PTTN, as described by Mark Pelavin of Americana Highways, is just that, unexpected. Scott and Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers and Mike Patton, legendary frontman of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle - just released their self-titled album, AVTT/PTTN. Launching a tour across the US; AVTT/PTTN is making a stop in Lewiston, New York.
Scott Avett's description of the creative process is simple, the making of the album emerges 'in secret and with no ambition.' Opening tracks, "Dark Night of My Soul" and "To Be Known" would fit on any Avett Brothers album according to Matt Hendrickson of Garden&Gun. The album takes a turn with "Heaven's Breath," blazing guitar riffs and towering vocals naturally unfolding until they come to an abrupt end; leaving the listener suspended and eager for more.
By the fourth track on the album, "Too Awesome," AVTT/PTTN embarks on a musical journey filled with cinematic tension, engulfed in the mutual dissolution of the artists themselves. The trio disappears and what emerges is as what John Bradbury refers to in his 13th Floor review of the album as 'strangely inevitable,' with the emotional depth of the album lingering long after the final note fades.
