Behind the clock, there is a tower that reaches 7 metres tall which houses Westminster chimes that greet visitors each quarter hour.

Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens

The Niagara Parks is known for maintaining its impeccable gardens, so you need to experience first-hand the grounds of the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture. At the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, you get to enjoy close to 100 acres of perfectly groomed floral and planted paradise.

You’ll see perennials, rhododendrons, azaleas, formal parterre garden, shade, herb and vegetable plantings, as well as the world-famous rose garden featuring over 2,400 roses. It’s free to wander these gardens and its open all year round. There is a charge for parking though.

You can’t visit Niagara without setting foot upon a piece of important Canadian historical significance. During the War of 1812, Queenston Heights was the grounds of the historic “Battle of Queenston Heights.” Erected on the grounds here is the famous “Brock’s Monument“. It is where Sir General Brock died heroically in a fight of courageous effort and strength. Visitors can tour the battlefield, and climb the monument for an amazing view of the land. This monuments stands 56 metres. It was rebuilt in 1853 after being bombed by a terrorist in 1840. Queenston Heights Park commemorates both Sir Isaac Brock and Laura Secord, for their roles during the War of 1812 with memorials. Have a picnic here, there’s a splash pad for the kids, a band shell, tennis courts and a snack bar.

Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Festival of Lights

The Opening Ceremonies happen in Queen Victoria Park, along the Niagara Parkway.
The darkness of the night will be lit up by the enchanting displays of the Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights throughout this festive season. In addition to the “flip-of-the-switch” during the opening ceremony, performers will electrify the crowd with an extraordinary show.
This event is free to the public and features family-friendly entertainment, food trucks, interactive displays and special guests. Kids entertainment will run from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM with appearances by the Paw Patrol, shows by the MiniPop Kids, the Home Depot kids workshop, the Heartland Forest train, face painting and more. 14th Annual PumpkinFest 
Stamford Presbyterian Church at 3121 St Paul Avenue in Niagara Falls, is hosting their 14th Annual PumpkinFest from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 1st. 2016.
There will be supervised children’s activities, plus the option to buy pumpkin pies along with a variety of baked goods, meat pies, and cabbage rolls, crafts and novelty items, and jewelry (including purses). There will be an indoor tea room, outdoor BBQ and eating tent, adult and children books and puzzles, a pumpkin pie contest (open to all), plus a silent auction offering amazing items at good prices.
Admission is free to get in.

Behind the Scenes Tour of the Niagara Falls History Museum

The Curator of the Niagara Falls Museums will take you behind the scenes of their collection. Explore the storage area, and learn about the stories behind some of the artifacts that are collected here.
Tours will be delivered twice a day at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm.
Tours will be first come first served on the day of the event and will be a maximum of 20 people.

13th Annual PumpkinFest at Heartland Forest

Craft Show and Artfest in Vineland

The Vineland annual craft show and Artfest is held on Thanksgiving Weekend from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, and visitors will get to check out various exhibits held at Twenty Valley Public School (4057 Victoria Avenue N. in Vineland).
Also along Victoria Ave there are various other exhibitors offering a huge range of crafts and food.

11th Annual “Walk A Mile In Her Shoes” Event at the Pen Centre
When: Saturday, October 15th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm

Walk a Mile in HER Shoes is a symbolic gesture of men marching to raise awareness and money for the issue of violence against women. The Walk gives men the opportunity to take a public stand on the issue of violence against women.

Men strap on a pair of heels and walk together through the Pen Centre in order to show women you want to work together in making the world a safer place for all mothers, sisters and daughters.

All proceeds from this fundraising walk will go towards Gillian’s Place, the only organization that provides a safe emergency shelter and specialized services for abused women and their children from Grimsby, Lincoln, Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. Catharines, Thorold and West Lincoln.

Registration: 9:30 am Walk: 11:30 am, with Closing Ceremonies to follow.

Niagara Wine Festival
When: Saturday, September 10th to Sunday, September 25th, 2016 

September’s Niagara Wine Festival features more than 100 events, which include concerts, one of Canada’s largest street parades, and of course our region’s finest winery and tasting tours.
Don’t forget all the exciting festivities that go on at Montebello Park (64 Ontario St.) in Downtown St.Catharines during the second and third weekend of the event. Montebello Park will have a variety of wine tasting and food pairing vendors lined up that are participating in the Niagara Wine Festival.
Wristbands will be in effect for those wishing to drink, however families are welcome as there will be a stroller and wagon entrance through the Lake St. entrance. Apart from the obvious celebration of Niagara’s finest wines, there will be plenty of live entertainment with a list of concerts.
On Saturday, September 24th, enjoy the colours and the pageantry of one of North America’s foremost street parades! Featuring an outstanding procession of marching bands, drum corps, community groups, majorettes, floats and amazing performances. This is one of my absolute favourite aspects of the Niagara Wine Festival.

Coca Cola Concert Series (until September 5th) and Niagara Falls Fireworks

Expect to see a fountain of an ever-changing multitude of colours that will reflect off the spraying water to sights and sounds to astonish and mesmerize the whole family!
There will be THREE shows nightly at these times: *8:15 pm *9:15 pm *10:15 pm
What makes this extra exciting, is that the Onguiaahra: Thunder of Waters will commence during the Coca-Cola concert series (8:00 pm), with the final showing right after the Niagara Falls Fireworks displays (10 pm).
Merritton Lions Club Community Festival

When: Friday, September 2nd to Monday, September 5th
Admission to the Festival is Free, but donations are gladly accepted and greatly appreciated, as this weekend is the Merritton Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser for the year.

Join Sherman Zavitz, the City’s Official Historian for a FREE walk into the past as he explores parts of Queen Street, Erie Avenue, Park Street, Zimmerman Avenue, Cataract Avenue, and Bridge Street.
This is an interesting and informative tour lasting approximately 90 minutes.

#1. Watch the entire process of how to make fudge 

Watch the fudge cooks as they present what goes into the art of making fudge, from first laying out the ingredients to shelving it for you to take home. They make 18 delicious flavours right before your eyes. The Fudge Factory on Clifton Hill offers spectators a front seat row. Watch from outside through the showcase windows, or come inside for a closer look.

On Thursday, April 28th at 6:00 pm, you are invited to a FREE Chainmaille Workshop at the Niagara Falls History Museum.
Chainmaille was the earliest form of metal armour and was invented before the fifth century by the ancient Celts. Its original purpose was to protect the wearer from sword strikes, and until the fourteenth century, was the primary armour for soldiers. Learn the pattern used for centuries to make armour.

It costs nothing to watch this spectacular light show on the American and Horseshoe Falls. Every night in April from 8:30 pm – 11:00 pm daily (Midnight on weekends) the Niagara Falls will illuminate in a sea of colours.

National Child Day is celebrated on November 20th each year.  It has been celebrated across Canada since 1993 to commemorate the United Nations’ adoption of two documents centered on children’s rights. These are the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child (November 20th, 1959), and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (November 20, 1989).
National Child Day is about celebrating children.

Heartland Forest is excited to launch of their new StoryWalk® event happening from November 20th to December 20th, 2015. Tuesday, January 20th, Cityline Fashion Expert Lynn Spence will host “Fashion on Ice” from 6:00 – 8:00 pm  in the Sears Court. Once again, this is completely free to watch for all those interested in fashion. As well as being a free event, there will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres served!
This is a fantastic way to stay on top of the latest fashion trends through this Winter Fashion Show. It features all the hottest winter trends that you can find at the Pen Centre, so afterwards feel free to enjoy some shopping in the more than 180 stores and services offered.
Lynn will give you a sneak preview of all the great deals and will take pictures with the shoppers. Plus, everyone in attendance will have an opportunity to win 1 of 5 $100 Pen Centre gift cards!

With “ice” as the theme of this post, it only seems appropriate to mention that this is also the last weekend of the Niagara Icewine Festival.
