By August, Niagara hits one of its sweetest stretches of the year. Peach season is in full swing, vineyards are edging toward harvest, and warm summer afternoons begin giving way to cooler evenings made for outdoor festivals, waterfront walks, and nights beneath the lights of Niagara Falls.

And the season is nowhere near finished.

From world-class rowing in Port Dalhousie and heritage celebrations in Niagara-on-the-Lake to supercars in Niagara Falls and the return of Niagara’s signature wine festival, August and September bring some of the region’s most anticipated events of 2026.

Plan Your Visit

Here are some of the standout festivals, sporting events, cultural celebrations, and live entertainment worth building into a late-summer Niagara getaway.

Royal Canadian Henley Regatta

Race Week: August 4–9 | Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines

For more than a century, the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta has brought elite rowers to the historic course at Port Dalhousie. The 2026 regatta runs August 2–9, with race week taking place August 4–9 and competitors arriving from clubs across Canada and beyond.

The racing is the main event, but the setting adds plenty to the experience. Between heats, explore Port Dalhousie’s waterfront, walk the pier, grab something to eat nearby, or simply find a spot along the course and watch crews power toward the finish.

You don’t need to know the difference between a scull and a sweep to appreciate the speed, precision, and atmosphere of one of Canada’s premier rowing competitions.

Niagara-on-the-Lake Peach Festival

August 7–8 | Queen Street, Niagara-on-the-Lake

Few things announce August in Niagara quite like the arrival of local peaches.

The Niagara-on-the-Lake Peach Festival takes over Queen Street on Friday, August 7 and Saturday, August 8, celebrating one of the region’s most anticipated crops with fresh fruit, peach-inspired treats, live music, local vendors, family activities, a peach pie contest, and an antique tractor display.

It’s an easygoing celebration of Niagara’s agricultural roots and one of the liveliest weekends of the summer in Old Town. Arrive hungry, leave room for dessert, and consider making a full day of it with shops, restaurants, wineries, and historic sites all close by.

The peach celebrations continue Sunday, August 9, with a separate community festival at St. Vincent de Paul Parish on Picton Street.

Niagara Falls Illumination & Fireworks

Nightly | Niagara Falls

After sunset, Niagara Falls takes on an entirely different character.

The Falls are illuminated every night of the year, transforming the Horseshoe and American Falls with shifting colours against the mist. During the 2026 summer season, nightly fireworks add another layer to the view: displays begin at 10 p.m. every evening through October 12, weather permitting.

Queen Victoria Park offers one of the classic vantage points, but the spectacle can be seen from several locations along the Niagara Parkway and Fallsview district.

For visitors spending a full day in Niagara Falls, it is an easy finale: explore during daylight, stay for the illumination, and watch the fireworks rise above one of Canada’s most recognizable landscapes.

Fife & Drum Muster & Soldiers’ Field Day

August 15–16 | Fort George National Historic Site, Niagara-on-the-Lake

History becomes considerably louder during Fort George’s annual Fife & Drum Muster and Soldiers’ Field Day.

Celebrating its 27th anniversary in 2026, the two-day gathering brings fife and drum corps and infantry units together for early-19th-century military music, drills, firing demonstrations, and historical interpretation inside one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s most important heritage sites.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, and admission to the event is free. It is particularly worthwhile for families, history enthusiasts, and anyone looking to experience Fort George when the site is at its most animated.

Niagara 5000: Automotive & Aviation Showcase

September 18–19 | Niagara Falls & Niagara District Airport

Supercars, private aircraft, luxury experiences, and the backdrop of Niagara Falls come together for Niagara 5000, a two-day automotive and lifestyle showcase returning September 18 and 19.

The weekend includes a Supercar Festival and parade in Niagara Falls, along with winery experiences, hospitality events and an automotive-and-aviation showcase at Niagara District Airport featuring high-speed runs, an autocross course and curated displays.

It is one of the more unusual additions to Niagara’s September calendar, pairing the spectacle of exotic vehicles with aviation, regional experiences, and charitable fundraising in support of McMaster Children’s Hospital.

Niagara Grape & Wine Festival

September 4–27 | Niagara Wine Country & St. Catharines

September is harvest season in Niagara, and few events capture it better than the Niagara Grape & Wine Festival, which marks its 75th anniversary in 2026.

The celebration begins in wine country with the Grape & Wine Discovery Pass, available over three weekends — September 4–6, 11–13 and 18–20 — with wine and culinary experiences at more than 25 participating Niagara wineries.

Later in the month, the festivities shift to downtown St. Catharines. Montebello Park hosts the main Grape & Wine celebration from September 25–27, with wine, food and entertainment, while the traditional Grande Parade moves through downtown on Saturday, September 26.

There is also a special kickoff on September 24, when Canadian rock band Sloan headlines Montebello Rocks at Montebello Park.

For visitors interested in Niagara wine, this is one of the best times of year to explore the region: harvest is underway, vineyards are changing colour, and the festival stretches the celebration from individual wineries to the heart of St. Catharines.

Make the Most of Late Summer in Niagara

August and September sit at the intersection of two of Niagara’s best seasons. Summer attractions are still going strong, but harvest season is beginning to reshape the landscape. Farm stands overflow with local fruit, wineries shift into their busiest time of year, and cooler evenings make it easier to linger outdoors.

That combination makes late summer particularly well suited to a Niagara getaway. Spend the afternoon at a festival or vineyard, leave time to explore the Falls and surrounding communities, and save the evening for dinner, live entertainment, or fireworks.

Summer may be entering its final stretch, but in Niagara, some of the year’s biggest celebrations are still ahead.
