Niagara Falls Casino Contest!

Reading Time:  4 minutes -

It’s that time of the year when Clifton Hill takes a little bit of a break from the chaos of Summertime. It’s just before Christmas and people begin to really watch their budget. The Comfort Inn Clifton Hill room rates are considerably cheaper in the Fall/Winter months than any other time of the year…and now they added a Niagara Falls Casino contest!
This is one of the best times to travel to Niagara Falls, or to simply get away for a staycation. Fewer people travel in December than the most popular months of June to August. This means less crowds, less lineups at popular Niagara Falls attractions, some great deals and there are still some great Niagara Falls events going on in the region — especially with Christmas on the way. As an added incentive, the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill is taking part in a Niagara Falls casino contest — book a room on either Friday, December 6th, 2013 or Saturday, December 7th, 2013 and you are automatically entered into a draw for $200 worth of casino game tokens to use at either Casino Niagara or Fallsview Casino.

* Click here to book a room! You must book by December 4th, 2013*
So what is going on during those days?
For starters, the Winter Festival of Lights is in full swing! This famous festival transforms the Niagara Parkway into a Winter Wonderland that attracts up to 1.5 million tourists annually both locally and internationally. This year, festival organizers have set up about 20 Korean lantern displays to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War and 50 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and South Korea. This year’s festival features 125 displays and three million tree and ground lights. The festival runs from November 4th, 2013 to January 31st, 2014.

Conveniently, the Fallsview Casino is running the Fallsview Casino Christmas on Ice show until the final day being Sunday, December 8, 2013! It’s a thrilling high paced spectacle of world-class ice skating and features national championship ice skaters, dancers and singers that will fill you with the magic of the season. Tickets start at $25 and there are various showings. If you are interested in booking on the two eligible dates for the Niagara Falls casino contest, here are the showings:
Friday, December 6th, 2013: 9:00 pm. Click here for ticket info.
Saturday, December 7th, 2013: 3:00pm & 9:00pm. Click here for ticket info.

Make sure to grab your camera and check out Niagara-on-the-Lake, just a short distance from the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel . On December 6th and 7th, 2013 from 10:00am – 4:00pm the 15th Annual Rotary Holiday House Tour commences. The most gorgeous historic properties are decked out for the season in holiday decorations by local businesses and volunteers. The tour operates regardless of the weather.
Purchased tickets ($25) can be picked up between 10 AM and 5 PM, 7 days a week, at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Chamber of Commerce, on the lower level at 26 Queen St., Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Of course the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel is not only walking distance from both the Casino Niagara, Fallsview Casino and the Winter Festival of Lights, but it’s also located right on Clifton Hill itself where all the attractions are open this time of the year — and Friday and Saturday nights until 12:00-1:00am for most attractions! The Niagara Skywheel has heated gondolas for your comfort, so no matter how much the temperature drops, the ride is open and offers spectacular one-of-a-kind views on the Niagara Falls and the surrounding landscape.
The best value for your buck is the Clifton Hill Fun Pass, where you get 5 Clifton Hill attractions for only $25.95+tax/Adults and $19.95+tax/Children — these include the Niagara Skywheel (TWO admissions if you purchase online), Dinosaur Adventure Golf (dependant on weather) OR Galaxy Golf, Movieland Wax Museum, the XD Ride Theatre and the Ghostblasters Dark Ride — plus a bonus of 5 tokens to use in the Great Canadian Midway!

There is so much to see within Niagara Falls, this is only a short summary of events that fall into the days of December 6th and 7th, 2013 — just a little added incentive to book on one or both of those two dates in order to be automatically entered into the Niagara Falls casino contest! To get started, click here. Good luck and enjoy your visit to Niagara Falls and your stay at the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill.

Niagara Falls Hilton Hotel Renovations Are Now Complete!

Reading Time:  4 minutes -

Walking down the glitz and glamour of everything exciting on Fallsview Boulevard, you would be amiss to not notice one hotel that stands high above the rest. The Niagara Falls Hilton Hotel soars 53 storeys above the American and Canadian Horseshoe Falls — and 2013 marks the year of completely renovated top-to-bottom room renovations and an almost unrecognizable lobby. I sat down with Jim Graham, the Niagara Falls Hilton Hotel Director of Marketing, to get the inside scoop on what’s new at the hotel — and was given a first-hand tour of this remarkable hotel.

*Jim Graham and I at the Spyce Lounge*
“The south tower has seen significant renovations, and all 500 guest rooms are completely renovated from top to bottom. We have two new food and beverage outlets and our Watermark Restaurant has been refreshed as well” said Graham.

“It has been 13 years since the Hilton’s south tower has seen significant renovations and its floor to ceiling upgrades match those of the north tower” said Graham.
The north tower was constructed in 2009 and houses 450 rooms. Walking through this hotel, I was immediately struck by the modern and up-to-date facade of the Niagara Falls Hilton Hotel. Everything is neutral tones of dark browns and beige. The whole hotel is fresh and spacious, and gives a spectacular view of the majestic Niagara Falls and surrounding landscape. Just check out this photo I took out of one of the rooms in the south tower!

“The renovations are in the tens of millions of dollars” said Graham, adding that the Watermark Restaurant has been given a sweep over as well. That being said, off to the 33rd floor we went to check out the ambient floor to ceiling design. Once I stepped inside the restaurant, it felt like I walked into a page out of Greek Mythology. An indoor waterfall, sculptures of Sea Gods in the walls, and shades of blue and white met my eye. The view was magnificent! The entire wall was a wide open window giving a one-of-a-kind view of the Falls. The menu has also been revised, adding additional farm-to-table continental cuisine from Executive Chef Tim O’Donnell and his team.

*The Watermark Restaurant is open daily from 5:00pm – 10:00pm. Please call 905-353-7138 to book reservations.
The Watermark Fallsview Restaurant specializes in group dining programs for local and International clients.  In addition to the sensational, panoramic view from 555 feet above the Niagara River, the restaurant offers:
  • Deluxe Breakfast and Buffet
  • A la Carte Dinner, Early Dinner Specials
  • Fallsview Roof Top Dining on the 33rd & 34th floors
  • Multi-level seating
  • Oversized windows 18 feet in height
For Group Tour and FIT information, please contact:
Jeff Andison, Director of Tour & Travel
1-800-339-5023 or jeff.andison@niagarafallshilton.com
Jim and I conducted our meeting at the all-new Spyce lounge situated in the lobby. “Our lobby has broadened to make way for the Spyce Lounge and the market cafe”. Only open since September 2013, the contemporary street-level lounge features live entertainment nightly, and the cafe, which features a touch of familiarity with Starbucks and a relatively new novelty frozen yogurt self-serve bar, Yogurty’s , adds to the company’s desire to provide a competitive edge in the industry. “Typically, it’s important to renovate our properties to ensure the hotel remains up to date and that the interior reflects the trend of current styles”, said Graham.

“This project has been in development for years and represents the completion of our vision” said Graham.
Looking around, the Niagara Falls Hilton Hotel really is in the center of it all with an indoor glass walkway that leads directly to the Fallsview Casino Resort. You have world-class dining and attractions such as the 175 foot tall Niagara Skywheel, right at your fingertips. The renovations came at the right time with the Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights fully underway until January 31st, 2014. Watch as the Niagara Falls illumination really captures the magic of Christmas with over 125 lighted displays along the Niagara Parkway and spectacular fireworks that light up the sky over the Falls.
The hotel is within close proximity of Clifton Hill, the main tourist promenade within Niagara Falls. The Winter Festival of Lights wouldn’t be complete without a picturesque photo of the entire landscape of displays, and the estimated 3 million Christmas lights captured all from the bird-eye view that the Niagara Skywheel offers its customers. Best of all, the wheel caters to groups and is open day to night to accommodate two different views of the wonder of the Niagara Falls. To inquire about group bookings, rates and hours of operation on the Niagara Skywheel please call 905-358-4793.

After meeting with Jim, I took a look around the hotel and snapped some additional photos. The lobby, Brasa Brazilian Steakhouse , and of course the spacious 50,000 square feet meeting rooms that accommodate small intimate gatherings of 10 people, to large corporate functions and formal banquets of up to 625 people, were on my list to capture on camera.

Niagara Falls Attractions are Heating up: Snowbirds Over The Falls!

Reading Time:  4 minutes -

Snowbirds Over The Falls
In just a couple of weeks, once the hustle and bustle of the Victoria Day and Memorial Day weekends wind down, some other Niagara Falls attractions will be gearing up for their chance to take part in something remarkable. On Wednesday, May 29th at 6:00 pm, the ultimate event is set to occur over the most amazing of Niagara Falls attractions there is: Snowbirds Over The Falls! The one and only Canadian Forces Snowbirds will take flight and soar above the majestic Wonder of the World performing their legendary air show demonstration with the ease and pristine precision that they are known for. They will use the Niagara Falls as the setting for a 25 minute, 9 plane, formation display in the sky; synchronizing within inches of one another, all while being enhanced by live commentary from the Snowbirds themselves. Spectators can watch this great Niagara Falls attraction from lining up along the Falls, however live commentary will only be broadcasted through the Table Rock Centre.

About the Canadian Forces Snowbirds
The Snowbirds Demonstration Team is a Canadian icon comprised of serving members of the Canadian Forces. Working closely as a team, their pilots and technicians thrill performances to the North American public, and will be sure to serve as one of the greatest Niagara Falls attractions to set the stage using this beautiful backdrop. Serving as Canadian ambassadors, the Snowbirds demonstrate the high level of professionalism, teamwork, excellence, discipline and dedication inherent in the women and men of the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Forces.
Six months of intensive training go into acquiring the skills necessary to perform in very difficult positions and formations. The Snowbirds spent the Winter months at their home base in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan practising their abilities.
For a list of their other 2013 upcoming performances click here.

Other Niagara Falls Attractions to view this spectacular event
If lining up along the Niagara Parkway is too busy for you, or you are perhaps looking for a truly unique way to experience this event, you may be able to time it right aboard the Niagara Skywheel. Keep in mind that chances are that many spectators will have this same idea so get there early to avoid any lineups…but this would truly be a once in a lifetime view as you too would be soaring 175 feet above ground level in this massive ferris wheel, at an inexpensive fee of $10.99 for adults and $6.99 for children! If you are willing to travel 600 feet higher and are willing to pay a little bit more money, then why not try the Skylon Tower?

After the event, there is still plenty of Niagara Falls Attractions to discover, and the Clifton Hill Fun Pass is your best bet to savings! It includes 5 great Clifton Hill attractions for half the cost which not only includes the Niagara Skywheel, but also the perfect outdoor activity, Dinosaur Adventure Golf or for the lovers of the indoors and rainy days, Galaxy Golf. You also get Movieland Wax Museum, Ghostblasters Dark Ride and the XD Ride Theatre, plus 5 game tokens to play inside the Great Canadian Midway. If you are coming from out of town, all these attractions plus the “Snowbirds Over The Falls” event are just steps away from the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel .  Since this Niagara Falls event falls during the mid-week, the rooms are inexpensive, and yet you still get the quality, convenience and comfort that you deserve. March Break Travel Tips in Niagara Falls…Save Money and Enjoy Your Family!

Reading Time:  5 minutes -

You blink and it’s here. March Break. Parents without a March Break plan face the possibility of spending their own hard-earned holidays ensuring the family isn’t bored – or worse – testing each other’s patience for an entire week. We’ve all been there before, booking a last minute getaway with the best intentions, only to have its foundation crumble before your eyes because you never took into account last minute details that you should have tweaked beforehand. Whether it be financial savings, or preparing for any injuries that quite possibly, and with all probability with a little one, may occur. Suddenly your vacation starts to unravel and you feel totally incompetent because its the little things that can really make or break your vacation and could have easily been avoided.
With March Break only a couple of weeks away, booking a last-minute getaway so the whole family can unwind isn’t as impossible as it may sound.  The perfect destination can still be found for all types of families and budgets. From getting the best possible deal to ensuring the family stays safe, here are some helpful…and quite often, overlooked tips.
There ARE last minute getaway options for families, not just couples without children.
Many hotels often offer package savings that you won’t necessarily be aware of unless you do research beforehand. Be your own Private Investigator. If there is a certain hotel chain that you are fond of, check out their website, subscribe to their newsletter, read their blog postings or even become a “fan” of their social media pages. You will find that many hotel chains advertise through this route and have monthly and even weekly special savings…maybe even contest giveaways!…that can greatly benefit you in the long run. As an example, the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls offers all the above in their website and continuously sustains many special offers and package deals year round.
https://www.cliftonhill.com/niagara-falls-packages and follow them socially on Facebook “Comfort Inn Clifton Hill: Niagara Falls Hotel and Resort” and/or on Twitter “@cliftonhillfun” and “@Niagara_Hotel”.
Since travelling with the whole clan can get pricey – vacationers need to start saving even before going on holiday. Consider a pre-packaged vacation that includes meals, which limits the need to spend more money while on holiday. The Comfort Inn always offers a complimentary breakfast with your stay, ensuring cost-effective savings on your most important meal of the day! Most establishments in tourist destinations will charge you an obscene amount of money to crack open an egg and fry some bacon…and if you have a family of four, consider that a savings of close to, if not more, than $60. Navigate your way through their website and you will find additional package savings complete with meal vouchers at family friendly establishments such as Kelsey’s and Boston Pizza!
https://www.cliftonhill.com/niagara-falls-restaurants
Alleviate boredom!
From destination activities like theme parks, water parks and museums for the kids to shopping, tours and golf outings for the parents, you need to ensure a memorable and lively holiday. For families who prefer to stay on a resort than venture off property, a hotel with an indoor pool or games room could help offset a rainy day when the kids are forced to stay indoors. For everyone else, look to book with a hotel that is affiliated with or offers significant savings with many local attractions that you can ALL enjoy. If you are looking to book a trip to Niagara Falls, the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill offers just that…attraction savings off property such as the Greg Frewin Magic Show and the Niagara Helicopter Tours to hitting up five side-by-side attractions just a mere couple of minutes from each other with the Clifton Hill Fun Pass!

Smartly Organize Your Packing
This one I can’t emphasize enough. Years ago when my husband moved back to Ontario from British Columbia with a few of his closest friends, he literally brought his entire wardrobe with him in one shot with the false understanding that he would be under the baggage weight. He was wrong. There he was, 15 minutes until boarding time throwing away sweaters, shoes and a few pairs of jeans all in the name of being under the required weight. If you have children, you know that traveling light is not an option. Make sure that you evenly distribute luggage weight. If you are 10 lbs over and your spouse is 10 lbs under in baggage weight…you know what to do. Transfer items from your suitcase to the other! And let’s be honest, it’s usually us women that carry all the “extras”…think curling irons, makeup, five different pairs of shoes “just in case” you find a need to finally wear those stilettos. You get the point. Make sure you check with your airline ahead of time regarding stroller and childseat guidelines as well. You don’t want any last minute surprises.
Share the excitement
Encourage kids of all ages to document their experiences with photos or diary entries.  Nominating them as the ‘official family photographer’ will not only keep them busy, but memories captured can then be shared on social media sites or in photo albums or framed pictures that can be hung in your home…and remember to have them tag their memories with the hotel or attraction of their choosing as well! They will appreciate the feedback and the response will ignite a sense of importance in your children as well. It’s a win-win.
Stay safe
Travelling is inherently risky, so the wise vacationer will take preventative precautions, including visiting a travel clinic that can set them up with prescriptions and antibiotics ahead of time. It’s always a good idea to have the whole family visit the doctor before you go, that way you can tackle ahead of time any preventative measures needed to avoid a potentially disastrous trip. When you check-in at the hotel, don’t be afraid to ask where the closest hospital is located, and if needed, have them supply you with a map. You may not think this will be necessary, but usually when you are on vacation you drink more and this will lower your inhibitions. That stair you so easily stepped up when you checked in may be a bomb waiting to detonate after a few alcoholic beverages. Also, carry a first aid kit with you. Bandaids, gauze, tweezers, whatever. You never know when you may need them. Stay safe and have fun!
Wherever you decide to go during your March Break getaway, follow these tips for a successful, stress-free, family FUN vacation! Enjoy and stay safe :).
Christine

Winter is here…and still lots to do in Niagara with your loved one!

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

A few years ago my husband and I headed up North in the dead of Winter expecting a weekend full of activites and events galore. However, the weather turned into a snowstorm and many events were cancelled and we were left to our own devices. We were disappointed to say the least and rarely left our room to explore the beautiful scenery outside because we were too cold and miserable. Looking back, if we only took the time to research what the city had to offer we would have never have fallen victim to boredom and might have even (gasp!) enjoyed ourselves and forgot about those Winter chills through the bones! My point is, you can’t play God with the weather but you CAN take control of your vacation and find a way to make the most of the season, have fun doing it and leave satisfied, fulfilled and with your significant other singing your praises and Niagara Falls is just the place to go to take in the majestic beauty and engage in a few activities that the shortest month of the year has to offer…really!

Let’s start with the Falls itself. The natural beauty is astonishing this time of year. The water is frozen and the Niagara Falls hang over the crest line 167 feet like sparkling chandeliers in the sunlight. You can take in the view from the many lookout points available or located just a 5 minute jaunt up Clifton Hill is the Niagara Skywheel. At a height of 170 feet, it’s 3 feet taller then the Falls. At the peak of the giant ferris wheel, you will be amazed at the exceptional bird’s eye view of not only the grandeur of the Niagara Falls, but of the surrounding area as well! And don’t be discouraged if you arrive late as the Falls are lit after dusk and the ride is open late into the evening hours.

When you have seen all of what you could of one of the natural 7 Wonders of the World, try the Rink on the Brink! Open until the end of the month, it’s an outdoor skating rink that overlooks the Falls. It generally closes at 9:00 p.m., with weekends slightly later. You can spend hours of fun and romance on the ice and all while getting in a little cardiovascular activity!
https://www.cliftonhill.com/events/rink-brink
Further up the Niagara Parkway rolls into the famous wineries of Niagara On the Lake. Why not take a tour? And to all you men out there, you can earn some bonus points with the lady by stopping by any of the 28 wineries of Niagara-On-The-Lake between 11-5 on any weekend in February for the “Days of Wine & Chocolate” event! Touring passes are $35 per person (plus HST) and can be purchased at any of the wineries. Savour wine while pairing it with some delicious chocolate infused snacks!!

When it’s time to wind down, the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill offers reasonable rates this time of the year and is located right in the heart of the tourism district. You are just moments away from many attractions and restaurants. Kelsey’s Bar & Grill in particular is actually attached to the hotel so that if you don’t feel like venturing out in the snowy armageddon, you don’t have to!
All in all, Niagara Falls has plenty to see and do with your loved one during this dreary time of the year. You don’t need to be holed up in your hotel room cursing Mother Nature…you can be out enjoying it and maybe even forgetting that when you get home you will have a mound of snow to shovel at your door! Ha! More reason to get away and book your trip to the Honeymoon Capital of the World! Best of luck booking your vacation and safe travels!
