Northern Pikes Front Man coming to Seneca Queen

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

*Pictured Above: Northern Pikes front man, Jay Semko (www.jaysemko.com)
The Seneca Queen Theatre, located in Niagara Falls, is a beautifully restored 300-seat intimate theatre that currently showcases a number of live entertainment performances.
On Saturday, March 7th, 2015 the theatre is excited to announce an acoustic concert by Nothern Pikes front man, and Saskatchewan born, Jay Semko.
Jay formed the Northern Pikes, a Canadian guitar-based pop rock group in 1984, alongside band members Bryan Potvin, Merl Bryck, and Don Schmid.
As a member of the Northern Pikes, Jay was awarded four Gold records and one Platinum, with sales of over 1 million units worldwide. Hit singles included “Teenland“, “Things I Do for Money”, “Wait for Me”, “Hopes Go Astray”, “She Ain’t Pretty”, “Girl with a Problem”, “Kiss Me You Fool”, “Twister”, and “Believe”.
A couple of these songs appeared in the USA Billboard Charts, and you couldn’t go very long on MuchMusic in the 1990’s without catching many of the band’s videos within the Top 5 countdown. “Girl with a Problem” in particular reached the #1 spot.
The Northern Pikes received 8 Juno Award nominations, with Jay Semko receiving two Canadian Music Publishers Association Awards.
The Northern Pikes have released twelve albums over their career, and in 2012 they were inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Northern Pikes – She Ain’t Pretty:

“I am so much looking forward to playing in Niagara Falls – this is a solo acoustic tour; me and my guitar, playing songs from the Northern Pikes, Due South, my solo albums, storytelling and truth-telling,” said Semko from his home in Saskatchewan.

The band’s 1990 album, Snow in June, became their biggest seller in Canada and the US.  That album’s lead single, “She Ain’t Pretty”, received heavy play on MuchMusic and was nominated for a Juno Award.

The show at Seneca Queen will provide fans with an intimate and interactive performance by Semko, reliving some of the history behind The Northern Pikes.

“I’ve never had more fun onstage – the one-on-one connection we’re getting every night is beyond description – laughter, tears, singing, sweating – a rare and precious thing – so amazingly cool,” he added.

This year marks the bands 30th Anniversary for The Pikes and the band, now a trio after the departure of Merl Bryck.

Jay Semko is also an award-winning music composer for numerous film and TV productions, including Canada’s most successful internationally syndicated series, “Due South”. His new album is entitled “Flora Vista” – an acoustic guitar based journey of love, loss, spirituality, addiction and recovery.

Niagara Falls Weekend Getaways

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

Can you believe in less than 4 weeks it’s Labour Day? Where did the summer go?
If you haven’t had a chance to get away for a few days this summer it’s time to start planning. Quite often I’m asked, “As someone who lives in Niagara, how would you spend two days here?”
Assuming I was coming from Toronto for a 2 day getaway, as a couple or with family, my itinerary would look something like this:
Not being an early riser, I would arrive in Niagara Falls around noon and would stay at the Comfort Inn on Clifton Hill of course. While check in isn’t until 2PM,  the bell desk will store my bags and we  would grab a quick bite to eat at Tim Hortons or Wendy’s.
Then it would be off to the Whirlpool Jet Boats in Queenston or simply stroll to the bottom of Clifton Hill for a ride on the new Hornblower Niagara Cruises. The refreshing coolness of being on the water, accompanied by splashing waves on the Jet Boat or the Falls bellowing mist while sailing on the Hornblower cruise vessel, is sure to wake you up after the drive to Niagara and lunch. Either way, its way more fun than a shower!

Next it’s off to the Niagara Glen across from the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens. Taking the staircase down into the Glen, you will feel like you are entering a different world. It feels like the temperature drops 10 degrees as you hike the trails of the Glen at your own speed. You can get right up to the river at this point sitting on the rocks you can wave at the Jet Boat as it comes and goes out of the whirlpool.

The next part of my day would be either exploring the fruit belt, between Queenston and Niagara-on-the–Lake, stocking up on fresh fruit for later, or stopping at a winery or two for gourmet wine samples.
Then it’s back to the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel for check–in and to relax for an hour to recharge and get ready for a fun filled night on Clifton Hill! Before dinner we’d pick up our Fun Passes at the SkyWheel, then enjoy a delicious meal at Kelsey’s, with its prime view of either Clifton Hill or Victoria Ave from its open air patios and great food at reasonable prices!

Then with Fun Pass in hand, it’s off to let loose on The Hill! The Clifton Hill Fun Pass is the best deal in town, 5 of the top attractions in the city plus Great Canadian Midway tokens for $25.95 is less than $5 for each attraction. The Skywheel is spectacular at night as is Dinosaur Adventure Golf; They set the stage for a fun-filled evening the whole family can enjoy.
Clifton Hill is still hopping right into the wee hours of the morning, and is a great place to end the evening with a night cap at Boston Pizza / Strike Rock and Bowl.

The next morning would start with a satisfying breakfast provided free with your hotel room at the Comfort Inn. Then we would either take a stroll down to the Falls or if we had purchased the Marineland package as part of our hotel stay it would be off to Marineland for the day.
Then it’s homeward bound after enjoying a great mix of excitement and relaxation for 2 days. The combination of great deals and free activities makes this trip affordable as well as fun for couples or families.
That’s how I would spend a two day getaway in Niagara Falls.
How would you spend your two day getaway to Niagara?

Tips To Save Money in Niagara Falls

Tips To Save Money in Niagara Falls
People are always looking for discounts when they travel, especially lately with the price of gas skyrocketing, making it financially tight to get away — if at all. So how do you save money when visiting Niagara Falls attractions, diningevents and other popular tourism destinations?
Be on the lookout for coupon books!

*Pictured Above: Brochure and Coupon rack in the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill Hotel*
It’s next to impossible to enter in any Niagara Falls hotel or information kiosk without spotting a rack of pamphlets. Some are brochures, some are brochures with perforated coupons attached, and many are full of coupon books. Do not bypass these racks! Discounts are generally anywhere between $1.00 off/person to $2.00/person for attractions (such as the Niagara SkyWheel), to 20% off of products and souvenirs (such as those at Souvenir City). Many hotels, such as here at the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel, even feature maps of the area framed by coupons on local hot-spots in the area.
I spoke to Dan Pasco, the man behind Rev Publishing Inc., about the new Save-A-Buck app for the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android, just recently introduced in October 2013. After his success with the launch of the Save-A-Buck coupon booklet in 2003, just 10 years later he set his eyes on making saving money a little easier — with the launch of this FREE app literally at your fingertips.

*Pictured Above: Dan Pasco, CEO of Rev Publishing www.revpublishing.com*
Dan Pasco is the Publisher, President and CEO of Rev Publishing Inc., and his entrepreneurial expertise and experiential knowledge within the media industry accounts for the success of his trademark line of publications, which produces and distributes thirty-seven magazines and three savings publications. Recently, Pasco has expanded Rev’s vision towards a digital, online platform, establishing a wider reach, moving towards a global market.
Things get a little easier with this new app. No longer do you need to carry around an abundance of magazines and coupon books in order to save money in Niagara Falls. With the introduction of this convenient option, it limits the amount of paperwork that you need to carry around with you on your travels. Simply search for the Canadian city that you are traveling to (in this case “Niagara Falls”), and then search for coupons from these components:
*Restaurants
*Bars/Nightlife
*What To Do
*Shopping
*Services
*Transportation
*Accommodations
When you select your interest, you will then be directed to a screen that lists the contact phone number, website, hours of operation, a map on how to get there, and a little bit of a synopsis of your choice, and then select “Get This Coupon” for the QR code to be scanned right off your phone.
You will also find www.Grabjab.com is also a part of Rev’s digital media successes (and a feature on the Save-A-Buck phone app). This reaches out to both locals and travelers to the region with continuous messaging that invites consumers to explore the services, products and experiences offered at incredible savings.  It features daily deals and coupons on the best stuff to do, see, eat, and buy in the area.
The Save-A-Buck app doesn’t just try to offer ways to save money in Niagara Falls though. You can also select the “Calendar of Events” button and be directed towards an online calendar in which you select your date of interest and see what is happening in that region. Plan ahead, see what there is to do in Niagara Falls on a specific date, and then potentially purchase tickets online with this easy to use app! For example, Kelsey’s Niagara will be featured in events to advertise the daily patio entertainment, or the Bodies Niagara Exhibit, which is a limited time event to enter Niagara Falls.
Do download the Save-A-Buck FREE app click here.
Check out the In-Room Magazines at your Hotel
Rev Publishing Inc. is responsible for a wide variety of In-Room Magazines in Niagara. Magazines such as Today Magazine, On The Boulevard, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the Marriott Fallsview Gateway Magazine can be found as part of your table-tops at most Niagara Hotels. These feature information on Niagara, and a little beyond, bringing you the products you want, and the information you need pertaining to the region of Niagara that you are staying.
Here at the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel, we offer Today Magazine. Have a look inside and you will discover attractions to visit, local news, lifestyle & culture, dining options in and around the area and so much more. The magazine also features additional coupons inside. It’s one of the most useful tools that you will find to get acquainted with the city.

Search Social Media for Deals
Social Media is all around us now and the majority of companies use Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest especially to advertise their new products and services. Remember that these companies want you to try out their attraction first and foremost, so by using social media to introduce coupons and contests, it is one of the best ways to advertise. Not only will you get a deal, but they will potentially make money and gain more followers.
Currently we are holding a contest. You could potentially win an overnight stay at the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill, plus some attraction and dining vouchers. Click here for information on how to enter. Remember, you benefit and we get the opportunity to introduce to you our Clifton Hill attractions!

The FlyBoard is very intuitive; similar to learning to ride a bike, waterski, surfing, skating or any other activity that requires a little balance.”

1 Dollar Day this Sunday at Clifton Hill Niagara Falls

Reading Time:  2 minutes -

This Sunday, January 12th, 2014 is the 26th annual $1 Day on Clifton Hill for Niagara residents.
Niagara residents are encouraged to take part is this yearly event with participating attractions along Clifton Hill being only a loonie, with these funds going towards Cystic Fibrosis research.
About Cystic Fibrosis
$1 Day on Clifton Hill raised $26,000 last year and we are hoping to raise even more in 2014. Cystic Fibrosis Canada describes Cystic fibrosis (CF) as “the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults with no known cure. CF primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. In the lungs, where the effects of the disease are most devastating, a build-up of thick mucus causes increasingly severe respiratory problems. This mucus and protein also build up in the digestive tract making it difficult to digest and absorb nutrients from food. Large quantities of digestive enzymes must be consumed with every meal and snack.”

$1 Day on Clifton Hill will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Niagara residents will be required to carry a form of photo ID to take part in the event that contains their Niagara residential address. A Driver’s license, passport or student card are valid sources of photo ID.

It’s this focus that drives so many families to the Niagara Region in the first place. Besides viewing the majestic Niagara Falls in itself, Clifton Hill is the prime tourist draw for families in Niagara. With an annual estimate at approximately 12 million visitors, it’s beneficial to have a street that focuses primarily on family entertainment and attractions to keep everyone interested. These include such attractions like the Niagara Skywheel, Dinosaur Adventure Golf, multiple museums such as Movieland Wax Museum of the Stars and a massive 70,000 square foot arcade called the Great Canadian Midway. Family fun in Niagara Falls doesn’t stop just at attractions though — restaurants that align Clifton Hill such as Boston Pizza focus on supplying you with a full menu of family favourites like gourmet pasta and pizza, while keeping adults and children entertained with attractions within the restaurant like it’s one of a kind, Strike Rock N Bowl. This is a 10-pin, 14 lane bowling alley customized with a Rock N Roll, black-lit theme that keeps everyone engaged!

A great Summer Saturday out with the kids starts with visiting Niagara Falls, enjoying the many attractions on Clifton Hill and then taking the short drive to Merrittville Speedway to catch all the live racecar action! Stay at the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel located directly on Clifton Hill to appreciate incredible savings on packages that are discounted to up to 70% on select attractions within the Build-A-Package option. This gives you a wide variety of things to do in Niagara Falls at a slashed cost…all while staying at a hotel with competitive rates, 5 minutes from the Niagara Falls and with added bonus features like free use of its indoor swimming pool, Wi-Fi and breakfast!
A great day to visit the Merrittville Speedway is on Saturday, August 5th for the Bob St. Amand Sr. Memorial Big Block event. This is a 100 lap event that is going to be huge! It is a Hoosier Stock Duel on the Dirt Big 6 Home Track Event and  the 3rd Enduro Qualifier accelerated by Niagara College.

We want everyone to check out everything that the Niagara Region has to offer, and what better way than a contest! New white lion exhibit now open at Safari Niagara!

Reading Time:  4 minutes -

Take the whole family to Safari Niagara!
If you are looking for a great Niagara Falls attraction to take the whole family, Safari Niagara has something for the whole family to enjoy! Located just a 10 minute drive from Niagara Falls itself, Stevensville is a town rich in rural beauty. Black Creek runs through the area which is often used by kayaks and canoes with a perfect spot to launch a boat…and within this stretch of countryside sits Safari Niagara at 2821 Stevensville Rd. Safari Niagara, formerly known as Zooz, is a 150-acre nature park with over 750 animal, bird and reptile species. It’s the ultimate Summer fun destination open from June 1 – Labour Day. The park is completely interactive with educational animal presentations, guided tours, animal feedings and a petting farm.

New this year is that admission is all inclusive, which means you gain access not only to the entrance fee, but also unlimited use of the rope course, bungee, safari rides, splash pad, fishing, kite flying, paddle boats and more! There’s also playgrounds for the little ones to enjoy, a restaurant on site and a gift shop. Season memberships are available for purchase at the park admissions booth or by calling 905-382-9669.

New to 2013 is the White Rhinoceros Exhibit, an Interactive Reptile Exhibit and a Free Flight Budgie Experience…and one of the most beautiful exotic animals has just arrived — the White Lions!
There are four white lions, two males and two females. The white lions range from 5 to 7 months old and were captive born from a facility in South Africa, which they will now be a permanent fixture at Safari Niagara.
White lions are extremely rare and have not been seen in the wild in more than 15 years. These are Niagara Falls’ first and ONLY lions. They reign from the Timbavati region of South Africa. Their white disposition is the result of a recessive gene known as a color inhibitor specific to their native region.
“We are committed to the conservation of endangered lions. We strive to educate our guests on the importance of conservation, as it is key to the survival of many species” said General Manager Tim Tykolis.
In addition to the lions, there are many more wide variety of animals from Elks and Flamingos to Tigers and Giraffes! Click here to see an alphabetical list of animals featured.

Safari Niagara is currently holding a naming contest for the four lions on their Facebook page @ www.facebook.com/SafariNiagara and directly at Safari Niagara until June 9th, 2013. The winners will be presented with 2-day passes to the park! Season memberships are available for purchase at the park admissions booth or by calling 905-382-9669.
