Katy Perry wax figure has arrived in Niagara Falls!

Reading Time:  2 minutes -

One of the hottest female celebrities of 2012 has made her debut on the Street of Fun by the Falls…more specifically the Movieland Wax Museum of the Stars! Katy Perry, who just last year caused a media frenzy by setting sail on the “Maid of the Mist” in June has now reinvented herself as a wax icon. The “Firework” singer, songwriter, actress and fashion icon stands tall and bright upon a lit up lollipop encrusted stage facing Clifton Hill, catching the attention of all the tourists. The newest addition to the museum will be sure to draw crowds as the audio and visual element really adds to experience. The set will dazzle you, intrigue you and entice you and will definitely leave you…”Wide Awake”!

At Movieland Wax Museum you see not only movie stars, but top television and music celebrities as well. Take your picture with old Hollywood favorites like Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, Marilyn Monroe and Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones to newer additions like Justin Bieber, Hannah Montana, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow and even Bollywood super-sensation  Shah Rukh Khan! There are over 100 figures to interact with and the museum caters to all age groups…Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Star Wars and the Twilight Mega Stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and even Laurel and Hardy for Grandma and Grandpa!

For those brave enough, the “House of Horrors” at the end of your visit will satisfy the adrenaline junkies looking for a good scare! You will need to feel your way through a dark mirror maze of terror in order to get to the exit, but to those of you that don’t think you can handle Freddy Krueger and Frankenstein, you can take the alternate route and skip it altogether!
Movieland Wax Museum can be found at the bottom of Clifton Hill, next to the Great Canadian Midway and Wendy’s Restaurant. We are open 365 days a year, including all Holidays. Call 905-358-3601 for hours of operation, ticket prices and other helpful information.

Winter is here…and still lots to do in Niagara with your loved one!

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

A few years ago my husband and I headed up North in the dead of Winter expecting a weekend full of activites and events galore. However, the weather turned into a snowstorm and many events were cancelled and we were left to our own devices. We were disappointed to say the least and rarely left our room to explore the beautiful scenery outside because we were too cold and miserable. Looking back, if we only took the time to research what the city had to offer we would have never have fallen victim to boredom and might have even (gasp!) enjoyed ourselves and forgot about those Winter chills through the bones! My point is, you can’t play God with the weather but you CAN take control of your vacation and find a way to make the most of the season, have fun doing it and leave satisfied, fulfilled and with your significant other singing your praises and Niagara Falls is just the place to go to take in the majestic beauty and engage in a few activities that the shortest month of the year has to offer…really!

Let’s start with the Falls itself. The natural beauty is astonishing this time of year. The water is frozen and the Niagara Falls hang over the crest line 167 feet like sparkling chandeliers in the sunlight. You can take in the view from the many lookout points available or located just a 5 minute jaunt up Clifton Hill is the Niagara Skywheel. At a height of 170 feet, it’s 3 feet taller then the Falls. At the peak of the giant ferris wheel, you will be amazed at the exceptional bird’s eye view of not only the grandeur of the Niagara Falls, but of the surrounding area as well! And don’t be discouraged if you arrive late as the Falls are lit after dusk and the ride is open late into the evening hours.

When you have seen all of what you could of one of the natural 7 Wonders of the World, try the Rink on the Brink! Open until the end of the month, it’s an outdoor skating rink that overlooks the Falls. It generally closes at 9:00 p.m., with weekends slightly later. You can spend hours of fun and romance on the ice and all while getting in a little cardiovascular activity!

Further up the Niagara Parkway rolls into the famous wineries of Niagara On the Lake. Why not take a tour? And to all you men out there, you can earn some bonus points with the lady by stopping by any of the 28 wineries of Niagara-On-The-Lake between 11-5 on any weekend in February for the “Days of Wine & Chocolate” event! Touring passes are $35 per person (plus HST) and can be purchased at any of the wineries. Savour wine while pairing it with some delicious chocolate infused snacks!!

When it’s time to wind down, the Comfort Inn Clifton Hill offers reasonable rates this time of the year and is located right in the heart of the tourism district. You are just moments away from many attractions and restaurants. Kelsey’s Bar & Grill in particular is actually attached to the hotel so that if you don’t feel like venturing out in the snowy armageddon, you don’t have to!
All in all, Niagara Falls has plenty to see and do with your loved one during this dreary time of the year. You don’t need to be holed up in your hotel room cursing Mother Nature…you can be out enjoying it and maybe even forgetting that when you get home you will have a mound of snow to shovel at your door! Ha! More reason to get away and book your trip to the Honeymoon Capital of the World! Best of luck booking your vacation and safe travels!

Reading Time:  2 minutes -

Good News for extreme sports fans, the energy drink company Red Bull has announced they will be stopping in Niagara Falls for their Crashed Ice Event!
Crashed Ice is a downhill skating race done by extreme sports lovers, and the races are similar to ski or snowboard cross. Four competitors on skates and full hockey padding race down a 350-metre course full of tight turns, jumps and drops. The courses are about four metres wide and are refrigerated like a hockey rink.

Yes mom and dad that means YOU will get to have fun along with the kids too! Being a Pisces it may be the water sign in me but I spend a lot of time down by the falls, just soaking it all in. Its such an amazing feeling when you can feel the rush of the water, and the mist in the air leaving you with such an incredible rush of good energy. Also it’s interesting I find there is such a good vibe from everyone who is at the waters edge walking along, people from different walks of life, and different nationalities all envying the same thing, it gives you a sense of comradery. You can sit there and gaze, or just stroll along the parkway taking in the falls from all angles…kind of like I did, check it out!

As you noticed Clifton Hill snuck in there too. I like to think of “The Street of Fun by the Falls” as the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! As if Niagara Falls wasn’t beautiful enough, you can start or end your viewing on a street filled with fun things to do for the entire family. For more info on Clifton Hill click here.

Walking into the Fun Factory on Clifton Hill you will more then likely notice a stir around the back counter!  This is where couples, family, and friends go to make memories while on a trip.    It is one of the coolest spots on the “street of fun by the falls”, and so entertaining.  You will find the unique items in the store ranging from quirky t-shirts, to stuffed animals, purses, funky hats, and so much more.  It’s worth a look and you will likely pass it on your way to see Niagara Falls anyways so stop in and see what wild things you may find!
You will find friendly employees always ready to help you as well meet Taylor and Ashley who have both been loyal employees every summer for the past few years.  Ashley attends Guelph University in the fall, while Taylor is a student at Niagara College! They love working at the Fun Factory so you will more then likely see them if you decide to stop in.

4th of July Video/Photos from Clifton Hill’s Point of View

Reading Time:  < 1 minute

We are getting summer going with a bang in Niagara Falls…or several! It has been a week filled with fireworks and celebrations! Most recent we welcomed our US friends to Canada during their July 4th Holiday celebrations! The fireworks were a lot of fun, but meeting all of you was even better.  Clifton Hill was filled with smiles, kids out loving the show, couples were getting close, and families sharing moments.
Just a hint if your in the falls for the next fireworks display a great spot to see them without the crazy amounts of crowds is right on the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel property, some people try to catch the SkyWheel (it goes all night and you get a bonus spin if you click here), but my fav was the people getting a view from the Dinosaur Adventure Golf! What better way to end a round then a giant display of beautiful colours and magnificent designs!

The Fudge Factory
Of course we know there is no shortage of totally fun attractions along Clifton Hill, but did you there are also great shops lining the streets offering a more delectable choice to add to your trip on the “street of fun by the falls!”  If you are anywhere near the Great Canadian Midway right next door you will find a chocolate lovers paradise.  There is honestly something for every taste bud jellybeans and candy, salted peanuts, and cotton candy.  I was delightfully surprised by the sugar free treats too, they were still so full of flavour my favourite was the sugar free chocolate truffle.

The Wallenda Walk and What to do While Your Here Part 3

Reading Time:  4 minutes -

Things to Do
Clifton Hill is a family friendly hot spot in Niagara Falls offering you all the “fun by the falls” you need before and after the Wallenda Walk.  Most rides open early around 9am and if you are coming in on Thursday the Niagara SkyWheel will give you the best view of the falls, and an opportunity to find a good area to see the event.  Once you have the game plan in order right beside the SkyWheel is the Dino Adventure Land.  It is one of the newer attractions to the hill, and has gained a lot of popularity since opening over a year ago.   If golf isn’t your thing try out the Great Canadian Midway where you can win tickets to score some great prizes. Did we mention Boston Pizza is attached to the midway too; kids can enjoy even more games while mom and dad get to relax and refuel.
Many tourists take advantage of the Clifton Hill Fun Pass offering a combination of attractions at a discounted price.  Included is the newest attraction on the hill the XD Theatre.  We are talking 6D technologies taking you on an immersing adventurous ride through the cosmos.
If this is a grown up only getaway a nice meal at Kelsey’s could turn into a hot night at Rumours Nightclub. Their mix of a light show, talented house DJ, and massive dance floor is enough to keep you out well into the early morning hours.
Some people would rather take their family to Marineland for the day.  Weather permitting the park will be in full swing ready to entertain you and the kids.   As well the Maid of the Mist is extremely popular with tourists.

Shopping
There is no shortage of shops along Clifton Hill if you need to pick something up for a loved one back home The Canadian Trading Company has a souvenir suiting any ones tastes.  If you are looking for something on the sweeter side don’t miss The Fudge Factory, their delectable treats are irresistible.  With homemade fudge, and candy apples you may be tempted to want to try everything in the store.  You can find some wacky souvenirs to remember your visit at the Fun Factory where you can get wax hands made.  It is a really neat process where they dip your hands in coloured wax and it hardens into whatever forms you want.
If you want to do some real shopping  a trip down Lundy’s Lane will fill that need.  You will find an outlet store for all occasions such as the Canada One Outlet Mall, more info click here.   Also down Lundy’s Lane are the West 49 Outlet Store, and The Brandname Shoe Warehouse.

Where To Eat
In Niagara Falls there is no shortage of places to eat, especially when you are in the Clifton Hill area.  If your staying at one of the many hotels on the hill like the Clifton Hill Niagara Falls Hotel you will find Restaurants like Kelsey’s attached,  making it more convenient for you.  Kitty corner from here are nice spots like Mama Mia’s for the Italian lovers, Indian Cuisine, and Korean as well.
Of course if you are on the go and just want a quick burger Clifton Hill has Wendy’s, Tim Horton’s, a great hot dog pretzel booth, and a fantastic ice cream vendor.  To see info on all these quick stops and more click here.

Hopefully this covers all your needs while you stay in Niagara Falls for the June 15th Wallenda Walk.  If you need anymore information feel free to socialize with us on Facebook or Twitter, or subscribe to our blog for up to date falls information.
