5 Ways to Experience Las Vegas in Niagara Falls

Reading Time:  4 minutes -

Niagara Falls, Ontario is not only a prime tourist destination to view the spectacular world-famous Horseshoe and American Falls, but did you know that you can experience Las Vegas in Niagara Falls as well?
Here are 5 ways to get excited! Bring your friends, spouse, and even hold your bachelor/bachelorette party here.
#1. Watch a Magic Show

Photo cred
As one of the world’s premier magicians, the Greg Frewin Theatre brings a little bit of Las Vegas to the Falls with this dazzling magic show. Featured at the Flamingo Hilton, Caesar’s Palace and Tropicana, Greg Frewin brings his performance to the heart of Niagara Falls. Enjoy a delicious buffet dinner before being treated to a spectacular night of magical illusions.
It’s also home to special events from concerts to comedy. Check the calendar before your visit and buy your tickets in advance before they sell out!
For information please visit www.gregfrewintheatre.com
#2. Walk the Strip!

Photo cred
Las Vegas is known for its vibrant cityscape with dramatic architecture and lights. Just like Vegas, Niagara Falls has its own dazzling street of fun — Clifton Hill! It’s constantly modernizing itself with new attractions, bigger and better newly renovated restaurants such at Kelsey’s Original Roadhouse (with one of Niagara’s biggest patio’s featuring live entertainment), and entertainment offerings on the Strip. Just like in Las Vegas, Clifton Hill even has its own Elvis Impersonator that sits in the Niagara SkyWheel Courtyard entirely wrapped in gold for photo opportunities! Light shows? Yes! At the bottom of Clifton Hill is Queen Victoria Park where everyone waits for the Niagara Falls firework shows every Friday, Wednesday, Sunday, and Holiday throughout the Summer. Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps, and Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls attractions close late in the Winter, and in the wee hours of the morning in the Summer, making it Niagara’s favourite party destination.
Niagara Falls illuminations happen daily 365 days a year!

#3. Gamble the Night Away and take in a Concert!

We have two casinos in Niagara Falls! Just like in Las Vegas, our casinos never close!
Casino Niagara is Niagara’s oldest casino located just off Clifton Hill. This casino boasts 2,700 slot machines, and 150 table games, off-track betting and more! There’s a 24-Hour Poker Room, plus four delicious dining options, and free live entertainment every Friday and Saturday evening from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am.
The Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort is a $1 billion gaming complex built in 2004. Here, you’ll find more than 3000 slot machines and 150 table games spread out among 180,000 square feet. The 500 progressive jackpot machines have paid out some of the largest prizes in Canadian history.
Take in the a show at the Avalon Ballroom where some of the world’s top entertainers perform. Then, browse the collection of unique shops in the Galleria for one-of-a-kind items, and relax with a massage in the spa.
Visit both casinos at www.casinoniagara.com and www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com
#4. Las Vegas has the “High Roller” Wheel, we have the “Niagara SkyWheel”

Photo cred
Both strips have spectacular observation wheels to view the lit up and dazzling lights. Las Vegas has the world’s tallest wheel at 55o feet (167 metres) high. It holds 28 40-passenger capsules in a glass-lined and temperature-controlled gondola. Niagara Falls has Canada’s largest observation wheel at 175 feet tall (53 metres). Considerably smaller than the High Roller, but majestic in its own right, the Niagara SkyWheel features panoramic views of the entire Niagara skyline including a bird’s-eye view of the incredible Canadian Horseshoe Falls. It too is climate-controlled with two wheelchair accessible gondolas. Each capsule fits 6-8 people.

#5. Visit Our Museums

Las Vegas has quirky museums…and so do we!
Las Vegas has the “Mob Museum”, the Discovery Children’s Museum, National Atomic Testing Museum, the Neon Museum, and Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum.
We have the Movieland Wax Museum, Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks, the Niagara Daredevil Museum, Ripley’s Believe it or Not!, Rock Legends Wax Museum, and the Niagara Falls History Museum to name a few.
The fun doesn’t stop in Las Vegas…and our Canadian version let’s you experience Las Vegas right here in Niagara Falls!

1 Dollar Day this Sunday at Clifton Hill Niagara Falls

Reading Time:  2 minutes -

This Sunday, January 12th, 2014 is the 26th annual $1 Day on Clifton Hill for Niagara residents.
Niagara residents are encouraged to take part is this yearly event with participating attractions along Clifton Hill being only a loonie, with these funds going towards Cystic Fibrosis research.
About Cystic Fibrosis
$1 Day on Clifton Hill raised $26,000 last year and we are hoping to raise even more in 2014. Cystic Fibrosis Canada describes Cystic fibrosis (CF) as “the most common fatal genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults with no known cure. CF primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. In the lungs, where the effects of the disease are most devastating, a build-up of thick mucus causes increasingly severe respiratory problems. This mucus and protein also build up in the digestive tract making it difficult to digest and absorb nutrients from food. Large quantities of digestive enzymes must be consumed with every meal and snack.”

$1 Day on Clifton Hill will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm and Niagara residents will be required to carry a form of photo ID to take part in the event that contains their Niagara residential address. A Driver’s license, passport or student card are valid sources of photo ID.
Video
Here is a list of the participating attractions:
*Ghostblasters Dark Ride (located inside the Great Canadian Midway)
*Ripley’s Odditorium and Ripley’s Moving Theatre (both close at 4:00pm)
*Crystal Caves Mirror Maze
*Guinness World Records Museum

Niagara Falls History Museum: Thursday Night’s are FREE

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

The Niagara Falls History Museum located at 5810 Ferry Street is the place to go to learn everything historical about Niagara Falls. Step inside and you will be met with three galleries; all of which have a story to tell about Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls History Museum has recently undergone a $12 million renovation, and the well-maintained and organized newly expanded museum sets the bar with its engaging and hands-on exhibits.
The first floor holds its newest exhibit: Egypt: The Gift of the Nile. Learn all about the ancient civilization well ahead of its time. Here, you will learn all about jewelery, perfume, make-up, religion, pottery and of course, the afterlife. I really enjoyed the heiroglyphics portion of this exhibit and find it amazing how intelligient these people of 5,000 years ago were. It was truly the birthplace of a remarkable civilization. Here are some photos that I took at the Niagara Falls History Museum of this exhibit:

The Niagara Falls History Museum has also added hands-on stations for visitors to write their name in hieroglyphics, make a mini pyramid and an Egyptian headdress.
The second floor is all about the War of 1812. You will be presented with Canada’s best collections of 1812 collections and memorabilia. The audio-visual ambiance really adds to the experience. Learn how this war shaped our nation! Niagara Falls is rich in history behind the War of 1812 — this is the perfect educational stop for school and group tours. Choose from the Niagara Falls History Museum, Battlefield tour, Museum and Battlefield tour, or the Battle Ground Hotel Museum Tour. You can also head to Niagara on the Lake and check out Fort George, the headquarters for the Centre Division of the British Army.

The second floor is devoted to everything you need to know about the Niagara Falls and the community itself. I really found this exhibit informative and I loved the community mosiac made up of tiny pictures of Niagara Falls residents that shape the community that we live in. The final result is a historic aerial view portrait of the Falls. I loved it! The people, the industry, social life, the creation of the Falls and the daredevils that attempted to conquer the Falls are all covered here.

Currently, the Niagara Falls History Museum is open late on Thursday night’s until 9:00pm and admission is FREE from 5:00pm – 9:00pm!
Niagara Falls Night of Art

Explore the Main and Ferry area where there will be artists displays, DJ’s, Regency Dance, local bands and so much more.  The Night of Art will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 19th at the Museum, in the Farmers Market, at the Regal Diner, Batter Up! Olde Style Fish and Chips and more.  Over 40 artists will be participating to make this a great night. Click here for details.
Head on over to Clifton Hill afterwards for some more evening entertainment! All our attractions are still open late! Enjoy the Clifton Hill Fun Pass any day of the week for 50% off retail price savings! Sunday to Thursday attractions such as the Ghostblasters Dark Ride, XD Ride Theatre, Movieland Wax Museum, Dinosaur Adventure Golf, Galaxy Golf and Niagara Skywheel are open as late as 11:00pm to 1:00am, with the Great Canadian Midway open until 2:00 am every day of the week! Friday and Saturday our attractions close between 1:00am – 2:00am.

And don’t forget…Niagara Falls Fireworks down at the bottom of Clifton Hill at Queen Victoria Park have been extended to every Friday at 10:00pm until October 11th, 2013!
