Each of Niagara’s 13 municipalities will work with one of Canada’s 13 provinces or territories to present the distinctive cultural heritage, entertainment, art, and culinary experiences of each pairing during their designated special night during this festival event, which will take place on a few evenings between August 7 and 2022. The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games will bring almost 5,000 competitors (including athletes, coaches, and support personnel) to the Niagara Region from August 6th to 21st. The programme will consist of 18 different sports, including the first-ever women’s-only rugby sevens competition and the return of lacrosse to the Games after a 37-year absence (1985). The 28th iteration of the Canada Games will also be the first time in 21 years—and only the third time ever—that the competition has been held in the province of Ontario.
The Canada Games, which alternate between winter and summer every two years, are the most important amateur sporting event in the nation and the pinnacle of Canadian athlete development. These young athletes, who are among the finest in their age group, have trained arduously to be among those picked to represent their province or territory and arrive at the Games as the best in their age group.
The residents of Niagara will hospitably welcome guests from all across the country. Athletics, which includes events from the track and field such as running, the javelin, and long jumping, was included in the first Olympic Games in 776 BC and is still present in the modern Olympics today.
Since its introduction to the Canada Games in 1973, the sport has been a staple of the Summer editions. Events for athletes with a physical disability and Special Olympics participants were added in 1993 and 2009, respectively, to the programme that at first only featured able-bodied athletes. A highlight of the Canada Summer Games is cycling. The Road Race will be one of a number of unique cycling competitions Niagara will host in 2022. Riders will compete against one another in this event, which will send them through Pelham on an endurance course.
The Criterium is another cycling competition scheduled for the Niagara 2022 Games. Criterium is a tremendously exciting sport that is a crowd favourite. It involves bicycles competing against one another in a series of shorter races over several laps. Brock University will host the Criterium.
Individual riders compete against the clock in the time trials to post the fastest time. The start and finish of the event will be at HH Knoll Lakeview Park, which will be situated along the Welland Canal in Port Colborne.
Diving

The Niagara 2022 Games’ diving competition will be thrilling for spectators. The Eleanor Misener Aquatics Centre at Brock University will host the springboard and platform diving competitions, which are popular with spectators due to their elegant appearance.
Legends on the Niagara Golf Course – Battlefield Course: 9172 Willoughby Dr, Niagara Falls, ON L2G 6X9
Golf, one of the most popular sports in the world, will include two competitions at the Niagara 2022 Games. At the Legends on the Niagara Battlefield Course in Niagara Falls, both the team event and the individual event will be played over four rounds.
Golf initially appeared on the Olympic schedule in 1900 and 1904; it didn’t return to Olympic participation until 2016. One medal, a gold one in 1904, has been won by Canada. Since its inclusion in the 2009 Canada Summer Games, golf has been a part of every summer programme.
Mountain Bike
Twelve Mile Creek: 20 Lockhart Dr, St. Catharines, ON L2R 6P7
Mountain biking is a very young sport, having only been included in the Olympic Games in the middle of the 1990s. The Niagara 2022 Games will feature the event near Brock University across Twelve Mile Creek. Races are often off-road and require a moderate amount of technical riding.
The 4km Mountain Bike course will start with a strong climb up Hydro Hill and continue to loop around the escarpment with new legacy elements like a rock garden and gap jumps to test racers. It is nestled amid the newly constructed and gorgeous trails of Twelve Mile Creek.
Rowing
Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course: 76 Henley Island Drive Saint Catharines, ON, Canada L2N 4V9
Since 1969, rowing has been a part of every Canada Summer Games. It was initially a sport for men exclusively in 1969 and 1973, but as of 1977, both men’s and women’s competitions were included, with a total of six disciplines. The 2022 Canada Games regatta, which will be held at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course, will be a benchmark competition for many provinces and territories and once again act as a stepping stone for rowers aspiring to make Canada’s national rowing team.

Rugby Sevens, one of the oldest sports to be featured at the Niagara 2022 Games, has taken off recently, in part because of the success of the Canadian women’s national team. In 2022, Brock University will play host to the first-ever Rugby Sevens competition for the Canada Games.
Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club: 10 Melville St, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON L0S 1J0
One of the first sports featured at the Summer Games, sailing made its debut in 1969. Events for both able-bodied and para-athletes in sailing will be held at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Sailing Club in collaboration with the Dalhousie Yacht Club.
Sailing, which was previously referred to as yachting until 2000, first appeared on the Olympic programme in 1896 and was only omitted from it in the year 1904. Nine Olympic medals have been won by Canada, which is presently looking for its first since the 2004 Games.
With the exception of 1973, sailing has been a part of every Canada Summer Games schedule since 1969 and has always included events for both men and women. The 2013 Sherbrooke Games added competitions for athletes with physical disabilities.
Soccer

In 2022, the world’s game and all of its popularity will go to Niagara with Canada’s top soccer players, displaying the rising talent of the nation. Since the first Canada Summer Games in 1969, soccer has been a part of the competition. At Welland’s Youngs Sportsplex, games will be played.
Softball, which was featured at the 1969 Canada Summer Games, will still be played in Niagara in 2022. The greatest players from Canada will compete in front of an area recognised for its fervent softball community in the fast-pitch variant and its quick-tempered speed of play.
Swimming, Para-Swimming, Special Olympics and Open Water Swimming

The sport of swimming in Canada has advanced significantly in recent years, and swimmers from all the provinces and territories are currently living exciting times. Swimming, one of the first Olympic sports, has been a mainstay of the Canada Summer Games since 1969. Swimming competitors at the Olympics now include para athletes and special Olympians in addition to swimmers with normal physical capabilities. At Brock University’s Eleanor Misener Aquatics Center and the Welland International Flatwater Centre, swimming competitions will take place.
Tennis

The history of tennis in Canada is firmly rooted in Niagara. One of the first towns to establish a tennis programme and send players to the Canadian Championships was this one. Tennis will be played at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Tennis Club and the Welland Tennis Club for the Niagara 2022 Games, continuing Niagara’s illustrious legacy of tennis brilliance.

Since the 1980s and 1990s, when triathlon first gained popularity, Canada has been at the forefront of the sport. Triathlon is a continuous endurance sport that was introduced in the 2009 Canada Summer Games. It consists of swimming, cycling, and running. The Welland International Flatwater Centre will host a triathlon.

Volleyball, which was initially played at both the Canada Summer and Winter Games, has subsequently established itself as a staple of the summer sports schedule. One of the most popular sports in the world is sure to deliver entertainment with its unexpected character, and Niagara College Welland Campus and Canada Games Park are set to be the stage in Niagara 2022.

The first Canada Games featured wrestling, which was originally a winter sport, in 1967. Women’s wrestling competitions were added in 2005. The wrestling competitions for Niagara 2022 will be held at the brand-new Canada Games Park, carrying on a proud history of Brock University and Niagara wrestling prowess.
Festival 13 for 13 The 13 For 13 Cultural Festival, which is being organised in partnership with Niagara’s 13 municipalities, will highlight the distinctive cultural history, entertainment, and culinary experiences of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories. The festival will provide attendees the chance to immerse themselves in the diverse cultures of each province and territory without ever leaving Niagara!
It is an honour for Niagara Parks to host two of these free celebrations with entertainment, music, and fireworks.

Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 7 to 10 p.m., Queen Victoria Park will host Niagara Falls and the Northwest Territories.

At Queen Victoria Park, the Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games will come to an end with a closing ceremony. The public is welcome to this free event.
The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games will come to a conclusion with the extinguishment of the Canada Games cauldron, another “Parade of Teams,” and a series of speakers headlined by the Premier of Ontario. In honour of the upcoming Canada Games, which will take place just six months from that evening, representatives of the PEI 2023 Canada Winter Games will also be there to accept the customary transfer of the Official Canada Games Flag.
