The GO Train stops at 4267 Bridge Street in Niagara Falls (at River Road), and the GO Bus at 4555 Erie Avenue (at Bridge Street) near downtown, or at its stop at Stanley Avenue & Highway 420. The Bridge Street and Erie Avenue routes are approximately 4 km from the Falls and only 2 blocks from the downtown district. Getting to Clifton Hill is easy from there with these options:

WEGO BUS SERVICE

Your round-trip ticket includes the GO Train to Niagara Falls as well as two-day access to WEGO, the hop-on, hop-off bus service that travels throughout the city of Niagara Falls and Niagara Parks. Just order online, present your Go ticket (printed or on your mobile device) and you’ll have access to WeGo.

Taxi

There are taxi stands located at the Niagara Falls GO Train stop for your convenience. There is no aggravation of hailing a cab with this convenient option.

Walking

If you came to Niagara Falls for the scenery, then this is your best option. To walk from Bridge Street to Clifton Hill and/or the Falls will take approximately a half hour. Take the Legacy Trail for a safe and quiet path. The trail connects downtown near City Hall to Bender Street by running along the old Canadian Pacific Railway corridor parallel to Ontario Avenue. It is a trail made from asphalt, which makes it easy for cyclists, the mobility impaired, and parents pushing strollers to use.

You can also take the world famous Niagara Parkway (River Road) with its unmistakable stone walls protecting pedestrians from the twelve foot drop into the scenic Niagara river gorge area.

Bicycles are welcome on the Niagara GO Train, and bike route maps are made available at the GO Train Niagara Falls station.

Since the Niagara Falls GO Trains are equipped to hold between 36-54 bikes, you can bring a set of wheels with you and enjoy some of top bike trails when you arrive!  This is a great opportunity to try the Niagara Scenic Parkway bike path and cruise your way through wine country.

Safety Never Stops

And no story of GO Transit would be complete without a pause to write about safety. As more customers return to transit, the transit agency wants to reassure riders their health and safety remains a top priority. Since the pandemic began, Metrolinx has implemented more than 40 permanent safety actions to keep transit safe. That includes mandatory masks, clear plastic barriers between seats on trains and buses, and hand sanitizer dispensers on vehicles and in stations.

Traffic Safety Plan for Total Solar Eclipse in Niagara

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

Niagara Parks and local municipalities are getting ready for the upcoming Total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024, by implementing a comprehensive traffic management and safety plan. With road closures set to take effect across Niagara Parks properties, the City of Niagara Falls, and the Town of Fort Erie, guests are advised to plan ahead for potential traffic delays and changes to their usual routes.

Here are some important points regarding road closures and transportation for the upcoming total solar eclipse:

  • Road closures will affect Niagara Parks properties, the City of Niagara Falls, and Town of Fort Erie on Monday, April 8.
  • Expect traffic delays, so it’s advisable for guests to plan their travel in advance.
  • Police have the authority to adjust road closures as needed for safety reasons.
  • There are parking lots available throughout the destination, including the Rapidsview Parking Lot, which offers a dedicated WEGO Shuttle service to the Falls.
  • Access to boat launches will be restricted on Monday, April 8.

The eclipse, projected to occur around 3:18 p.m., will be a major draw for visitors eager to witness this rare celestial event, especially as it unfolds over the iconic Niagara Falls. In anticipation of the large crowds expected to descend upon the region, a series of road closures will be enforced throughout the day, with adjustments made as necessary by local law enforcement to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists alike.

To accommodate visitors, parking lots will be available at various locations, including the Rapidsview Parking Lot, with a dedicated WEGO Shuttle service to Table Rock Centre. Public transit options such as the WEGO Bus Service and GO Transit are also encouraged to ease traffic congestion. Additionally, guests should come prepared with ISO-certified viewing glasses to safely observe the eclipse and be mindful of potential disruptions to cell service due to the high volume of visitors.

Guest Planning Considerations

Here are some important tips for guests planning to view the solar eclipse in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie:

  • Bring your own ISO-certified viewing glasses to safely watch the eclipse. Looking at the sun without proper eyewear can cause eye damage.
  • Niagara Parks may have limited glasses available, so it’s best to bring your own to avoid disappointment.
  • Expect increased traffic congestion starting from April 5, so plan ahead and ensure you have enough gas, water, and food.
  • Dress in layers and prepare for changing weather conditions.
  • Be aware that cell signal may be affected due to high visitor numbers, and bring cash in case electronic payment systems are unavailable.
  • Remember, tents or shade structures are not allowed in the Queen Victoria Park area.

As the region braces for increased traffic leading up to the eclipse, guests are reminded to plan accordingly by stocking up on supplies, dressing appropriately for varying weather conditions, and being prepared for potential changes in cell signal and electronic payment systems. By working together and planning ahead, visitors can ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while witnessing this extraordinary natural phenomenon.

Ontario Expands GO Train Service to Niagara

Province adding 12 roundtrips per week between Union Station and Niagara Falls

May 19, 2023

NIAGARA – To connect more people to jobs, housing and Canada’s top tourist destination, the Ontario government is increasing GO train service between Union Station and Niagara Falls, with more express service between Hamilton, Burlington and Toronto.

“The expansion of GO train service between downtown Toronto and Niagara Falls will not only shorten travel times for everyday commuters but will also help promote tourism and economic growth for the entire Niagara region,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Whether it’s building roads or highways, expanding our subways or transit service, our government is building the transportation infrastructure our economy needs to reach its full potential. We’re keeping people and goods moving.”

Starting May 20, weekday service to Niagara Falls will increase by two daily roundtrips and weekend service will increase by one daily roundtrip, for a total of 21 roundtrips per week. As part of these enhancements, GO trains will also resume service to St. Catharines VIA station. The province is also adding four additional weekday peak express trips in each direction on the Lakeshore West line, offering more travel options between Hamilton, Burlington and Toronto.

“This is another exciting step in our government’s plan to deliver more GO train trips, more often across the network, to help people get where they need to go with ease,” said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation. “By providing more convenient transportation options between Niagara Region and the downtown Toronto core, we’re unlocking opportunities for jobs and economic growth across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.”

An economic driver for the province, Niagara’s tourism industry supports close to 23,000 jobs in the region. Weekend GO train service will have special seasonal bike coaches, providing passengers with the opportunity to bring along bicycles to explore the 56-kilometre Niagara River corridor.

“Our government recognizes tourism’s importance to Ontario’s economy,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “As we approach peak travel season, we want to encourage even more people to experience the fun and beauty found in Niagara Falls. By providing faster, more frequent GO services, we are strengthening Niagara’s $1.8 billion tourism industry.”

Holiday Weekend Alternate Routes to QEW to and from Niagara Falls

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

As the Summer Holidays draw near and the much-awaited Victoria Day long weekend approaches, it’s important to anticipate and prepare for potential traffic congestion and delays. To ensure a smoother journey, it is advisable to consider taking an alternative route when visiting the Clifton Hill tourist area and heading to and from the QEW.

With the surge in holiday travelers and tourists, the roads leading to popular destinations tend to experience heavy traffic, causing frustrating delays and longer travel times. Therefore, it is prudent to plan ahead and explore alternative routes that may offer better traffic conditions and help you reach your destination more efficiently.

Don’t hesitate to utilize mapping applications or consult local traffic updates to identify the most suitable alternate routes based on real-time traffic conditions. These tools can provide valuable insights and suggest alternative pathways that may not only save you time but also offer scenic drives or interesting detours along the way, adding an element of adventure to your journey.

Bypass slow downs that can occur on the 420 with these two alternate routes for a quicker and less congested exit.

Our Clifton Hill parking lot is central to all that is happening over the Holidays, including a 5-minute walk to viewing the Niagara Falls, the fireworks shows, the Clifton Hill and Niagara Parks attractions, and Niagara Falls entertainment facilities (bars, casinos, etc.).

Keep this map and directions handy for all busy weekends, construction or any time you can’t use the 420 Highway.

Route #1

  • Exit the Clifton Hill parking lot onto Robinson Street.
  • Follow Robinson Street to Stanley Avenue.
  • Turn left onto Stanley Avenue.
  • Continue on Stanley Avenue south-bound to McLeod Road.
  • Turn right onto McLeod Road, and follow to the QEW on-ramp.

Route #2.

Approaches to Niagara Falls
Travelling by car

Niagara Falls offers various east-west approaches, with the Niagara Parkway being a scenic option that follows the Canadian side of the Niagara River from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie, passing through the city.

To reach your destination in the Falls, the primary route is the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) via Hwy 420. This highway begins in Toronto, follows Lake Ontario, passes through Niagara Falls, and connects with major streets before reaching the Peace Bridge.

Visitors from Southwestern Ontario can also use Hwy 20, providing direct access to Niagara Falls, or Hwy 3, which leads to smaller roads leading to the city.

On the Canadian side, toll bridges facilitate travel for visitors coming from New York (often via the I-90 Interstate Highway) to reach the Canadian side of the Falls. These include the Rainbow Bridge in the sightseeing area, the Whirlpool Bridge north of downtown, and the Peace Bridge linking Buffalo, NY, and Fort Erie, Ontario, situated just south of Niagara Falls.

Government of Canada to remove COVID-19 border and travel measures effective October 1

News release

September 26, 2022 | Ottawa, ON | Public Health Agency of Canada

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Government of Canada has taken a layered approach to border management to protect the health and safety of Canadians. As the pandemic situation has continued to evolve, adjustments to border measures have been informed by the latest evidence, available data, operational considerations, and the epidemiological situation, both in Canada and internationally. Today the Government of Canada announced the removal of all COVID-19 entry restrictions, as well as testing, quarantine, and isolation requirements for anyone entering Canada, effective October 1, 2022.

The removal of border measures has been facilitated by a number of factors, including modelling that indicates that Canada has largely passed the peak of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 fuelled wave, Canada’s high vaccination rates, lower hospitalization and death rates, as well as the availability and use of vaccine boosters (including new bivalent formulation), rapid tests, and treatments for COVID-19.

Effective October 1, 2022, all travellers, regardless of citizenship, will no longer have to:

  • submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app or website;
  • provide proof of vaccination;
  • undergo pre- or on-arrival testing;
  • carry out COVID-19-related quarantine or isolation;
  • monitor and report if they develop signs or symptoms of COVID-19 upon arriving to Canada.

Transport Canada is also removing existing travel requirements. As of October 1, 2022, travellers will no longer be required to:

  • undergo health checks for travel on air and rail; or
  • wear masks on planes and trains.

Although the masking requirement is being lifted, all travellers are strongly recommended to wear high quality and well-fitted masks during their journeys.

Cruise measures are also being lifted, and travellers will no longer be required to have pre-board tests, be vaccinated, or use ArriveCAN. A set of guidelines will remain to protect passengers and crew, which will align with the approach used in the United States.

Individuals are reminded that they should not travel if they have symptoms of COVID-19. If travellers become sick while travelling, and are still sick when they arrive in Canada, they should inform a flight attendant, cruise staff, or a border services officer upon arrival. They may then be referred to a quarantine officer who will decide whether the traveller needs further medical assessment as COVID-19 remains one of many communicable diseases listed in the Quarantine Act.

The Government of Canada also reminds travellers to make informed decisions when considering travel outside of Canada to protect their health and safety. They are encouraged to review the travel advice at https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/advisories for more information on safe travel.

Canadians can continue to do their part to protect themselves and others, and reduce the spread of COVID-19, by getting vaccinated and boosted, using high quality and well-fitted masks where appropriate, self-isolating if they have symptoms and self-testing if they can.

Quotes

“Thanks largely to Canadians who have rolled up their sleeves to get vaccinated, we have reached the point where we can safely lift the sanitary measures at the border. However, we expect COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses will continue to circulate over the cold months, so I encourage everyone to stay up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination, including booster doses and exercise individual public health measures. I also thank the dedicated public health officers and frontline staff at our land borders and airports who have worked tirelessly to protect the health and safety of people in Canada for the last two years.”

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos
Minister of Health

“Canada’s travel measures successfully mitigated the full impact of COVID-19 for travellers and workers in the transportation sector, and helped keep communities safe. Thanks to Canadians who rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated, we are able to take this great step towards easing measures and returning to normal.”

The Honourable Omar Alghabra
Minister of Transport

“Since the start, our Government has taken the necessary steps to keep Canadians safe in the face of a global pandemic. COVID-19 border measures were always meant to be temporary and we are making adjustments based on the current situation because that’s what Canadians expect. I want to thank CBSA officers who are at the front line facilitating travel, supporting our economy, and ensuring the safety and security of our communities.”

The Honourable Marco Mendicino
Minister of Public Safety

Quick facts

  • Travellers must follow any provincial or territorial COVID-19 requirements as applicable. Foreign nationals must still meet the entry requirements under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and provide appropriate travel and immigration documentation as necessary.
  • Air carriers will no longer need to validate that travellers have entered information in ArriveCAN before boarding.
  • As of October 1, 2022, travellers who entered Canada in the 14 days prior to October 1, 2022, will not be required to complete the remainder of their quarantine or isolation, or complete their testing requirements.
  • While travellers will no longer have to submit their quarantine and vaccination information through ArriveCAN, they can continue to use the optional Advance Declaration feature in ArriveCAN (free as a mobile app or on the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) website) to save time at the airport by submitting their customs and immigration declaration in advance of arrival.
    • This feature is currently available to travellers arriving at Toronto Pearson, Vancouver, or Montréal-Trudeau international airports and will expand to the Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Billy Bishop Toronto City, Ottawa, Québec City, and Halifax international airports in the coming months.
  • Early data shows that using the Advance CBSA Declaration in ArriveCAN cuts the amount of time a traveller spends at a kiosk by roughly one third, and over 30% of travellers arriving at the airports are already using it.
  • The CBSA will continue to make technology available at the border to speed up traveller entry and enhance the safety and security of Canadians. For example, CBSA is exploring other optional ArriveCAN features to provide travellers with easy access to information such as border wait times, and other self-serve functions. This will be expanded to travellers by land so they can make use of available technology to expedite and facilitate their travel.
