Kane’s stint with Cup to begin at Niagara Falls

The Buffalo News reports: Patrick Kane will get an early start Friday on his first day with the Stanley Cup. The Blackhawks star will bring the Cup to the Cave of the Winds in Niagara Falls State Park on the Hurricane Deck at 8:30 a.m.
Afterward, Kane will meet with pediatric and adult cancer patients and thank local steelworkers for their painted tribute “(Buzz) Pat Kane Wins Stanley Cup” on a sixth-floor steel beam of a building under construction behind Buffalo General Hospital.

Pink to join hubby for grand opening of Hart & Huntington in Niagara Falls

Renowned motocross racer and tattoo guru Carey Hart is coming to town. And he’s bringing his wife with him.  That would be pop star Pink.
The couple will in Niagara Falls Saturday, Aug. 21, to mark the grand opening of the Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. on Fallsview Boulevard. A full day of events are planned, capped by a red carpet after-party at Margaritaville at 9:30 p.m. Other celebrities are expected to attend.
A ribbon-cutting at noon will be followed by live music, skateboard and BMX demonstrations, and an autograph session with Hart. The after-party at Margaritaville is for those 19 or over. Tickets can purchased at Hart & Huntington. (more)

NIAGARA FALLS — There’s going to be cinema under the stars this summer downtown.
As part of its plan to have 10 consecutive Saturdays of events on Queen St., Historic Niagara Development Inc. will be screening movies outdoors at city hall.
“Open air cinema is very popular in places like New York,” says Toni Williams, general manager of the Downtown Business Improvement Area. (more…)

The Can-Am Comics and Anime Expo will be held in Niagara Falls Canada at the famous Skylon Tower, March 12-14, 2010.
The show will feature displays from exhibitors covering both of these popular and interesting genres. While comic books and their collectors have been almost timeless, the Japanese cartoon animation forms (Anime) are relatively new.
Anime has become a popular world wide phenomena due to their challenging plots, creative costumes and on going stories of intrigue.
At shows such as The Can-Am Comics and Anime Expo, it will be common to see show attendees dressed in the costumes of their favorite Anime Character.
There will be a continuous run, Anime Video theatre and Open Stage where various contests such as Best Costume, Name That Tune and other games will be featured, throughout the three day event. (more…)

Rainforest Action Network drops Seventy-Foot Banner Over Niagara Falls to Welcome Prime Minister Harper to the U.S.
Banner: “Canadian Tar Sands Oil Undermines North America’s Clean Energy Future”
Before dawn this morning, a small team of climate activists rappelled from the US observation deck at Niagara Falls. Dangling hundreds of feet above the ground, they sent a special welcome message to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper ahead of his first official visit to the White House to push dirty Tar Sands oil.
Not that he’s feeling so welcome anyway. Obama limited the meeting to just one hour. While some have called it a slap in the face, Aides say Harper will turn the other cheek. “The economy, and the clean-energy dialogue,” one aide told the Globe and Mail, “will dominate the discussions.” Obama needed to dodge controversy over oil imports from Canada’s tar sands in the midst of the Climate Legislation debate. You Discover, the talent competition currently being run in the Oakes Garden theatre near Clifton Hill, recently broadcast a video of two competing bands: the Black Flies and the Lucas Project riding atop the giant Niagara Skywheel. While riding the Giant Wheel, they attempt to write a song off the cuff, which is really fun to watch as try to pull it off.
