What To Pack For Winter In Niagara Falls

Reading Time:  3 minutes -

Bring Your Passport

When crossing the border into Canada, be sure to have your Passport handy. You will need this in order to enter our country. Other accepted documents include:
* NEXUS card
* U.S. Passport Card
* Enhanced Driver’s Licence (EDL)

Bring Winter Boots with Good Traction

Undoubtedly, if you are traveling to Niagara Falls, you are planning to view the American and Horseshoe Falls. While you should have boots with proper traction anyhow, it’s especially important when viewing the falls. The mist and spray from the waterfalls combined with the cold wind that drifts off the Niagara River, sprays and creates ice along the Parkway and viewing areas. It’s important to have the proper Winter traction for this reason alone. Also, many of the popular go-to spots such as Clifton Hill and Murray Hill (the main access to Queen Victoria Park and the Fallsview area and casino), are situated on a Hill (just like the name suggests). Proper footwear is a necessity.

Pack Your Swimsuit

That’s right! I said swimsuit. Niagara Falls is home to North America’s largest indoor waterpark. Visit 3 acres of indoor paradise at the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark. It is set a tropical temperature, and features 16 waterslides, a wave pool, and an adult hot tub. This is located just a couple of minutes walk from the Falls, off Clifton Hill on Falls Avenue. Who said you can’t have Summer anytime of the year?

Bring a heavy Winter Jacket

This is a must because typically in the Winter, temperatures vary in the day between 2° to -0.9° degrees Celsius (36° to 30° degrees Fahrenheit) during the height of the cold weather (January – February) in Niagara Falls, and range from -4.5° to -8.2° degrees Celsius (24° to 17° degrees Fahrenheit) in the evening. To avoid heavy luggage weight, we recommend that you bring it with you; either by wearing it in or packed inside a carry-on bag. Gloves, hats, and scarves are another necessity that go along with this. If you find that your jacket isn’t warm enough, we sell the proper jackets for our type of weather at the Canada Trading Company here on Clifton Hill, Niagara Falls.

Bring Your Credit Cards

If you visit Niagara Falls from a another country, purchasing using your debit or credit cards is the ideal way. This way, you will get the best exchange rate from your bank. You will find a number of currency exchange places in Niagara Falls, but your best bet would be to exchange at either the Fallsview Casino or Casino Niagarawhich generally offers the bank rate. Most establishments in Niagara Falls accept all major credit cards: VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, and Discover.
