Niagara Falls Tourism launches new website
The Niagara Falls Tourism Bureau in Niagara Falls, Canada has just recently launched an all new website!
Their Web Design company, 180 Marketing in St. Catharines, did an outstanding job with the new web design. This new site is a huge improvement from the previous version, which was saturated with banner ads, hard on the eyes (too many reddish colors), and had some navigational issues.

Click Here to Visit Niagara Falls Tourism’s Official Site
The new site has some great features, which include:
-Dynamic animated splash page
-Much larger photography in each main category
-Simplified and effective menu navigation
-New Vacation Planning Section (eg. MyNiagaraFalls)
-Effective navigational drop down menus with zoom out
-High end video presentation section (eg. FallsTV)
-Balanced use of color

Naked man survives Niagara Falls plunge

As reported in the Canadian Press
Reports: Person survives plunge over Niagara Falls
NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario — A man has survived a plunge over Niagara Falls, clinging to a log long enough for a private helicopter to create a current that pushed him to safety, according to reports.
Investigators tell a Buffalo television station, WGRZ, that the victim was semiconscious when he was rescued and was taken to a hospital in Niagara Falls, Canada. His condition was not immediately known.
While investigators were not yet calling the leap a suicide attempt, they say the man did enter the water on his own. Authorities got a call from a witness telling them a man had jumped into the Horseshoe Falls, as the Canadian Falls are known. A short time later, he was seen near the base of the falls, clinging to a log. (more…)

Reading Time:  < 1 minute

According to Niagara Falls Tourism, Niagara Falls will be featured on Extreme Makeover Home Edition this weekend. The episode is airing this Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 8PM EST.
This past Wednesday it was also reported by the Albert Lea Tribune of Hayward,

“Extreme Makeover” producers knocked on the door of the DeVries family on Sept. 30. The next day they were sent on a vacation to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Larson Contracting and volunteer workers demolished their house Oct. 2 and began building a new home in about 100 hours. The house was finished on Oct. 5, and the keys to the new house were handed over Oct. 6. On Oct. 7 — the big day — the rain-soaked crowd of onlookers hollered, “Move that bus!” while the DeVrieses stood wide-eyed and open-mouthed at the surprise of seeing their new house. On Oct. 8, the family received more gifts from the community, including a new Ford pickup from Poet and ethanol producers.

A Rainbow Over Niagara Falls?
For over ten years now, New York City billionaire Howard Milstein has owned 140 acres of land in Niagara Falls, and virtually all of it remains as vacant today as they day he obtained it.
All over the Falls, you see signs for his company-Niagara Falls Redevelopment. Milstein’s holdings include the Native American museum The Turtle which has been closed for years, and sits just steps from the state park, as well as the closed Nabisco plant. (more…)

Niagara Falls: Still a worthwhile travel destination

Niagara Falls, one of the greatest natural wonders of the world and legendary spot for honeymooners, was my latest travel destination with a Seattle theater critic friend.
As a guest of Ontario Tourism, I not only had the opportunity to enjoy nine plays at the Shaw Festival, the only theater in the world specializing exclusively in plays by Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries, but I also savored ice wine from the most celebrated grape and wine producing region in Canada, took a step back in history at Niagara-on-the-Lake and got up close and personal with the “thundering water.” (more…)

The ultimate Niagara Falls showdown …

Hope you bought a clean pair of underwear! Mwah-ha-ha!”
Welcome to Canada’s permanent circus, a.k.a. Niagara Falls, Ont., where the buildings bark at you in menacing tones. (A character outside The House of Frankenstein actually does accost you about your underwear.)
Niagara Falls, where hotdogs are part of a complete breakfast. And where waxy incarnations of Brangelina are on a humanitarian mission to bring more cheesy tourist snapshots into the world. (more…)

Veronica Ross
FALLING
by Anne Simpson
(McClelland & Stewart,320 pages, $32.99 hardcover)
Veronica Ross
Award-winning novelist and poet Anne Simpson has set her new novel in Niagara Falls, a perfect setting for a novel about loss.
The casinos, tawdry souvenir shops and tourist attractions, stories of the crazy daredevils who hurled themselves over the falls, tour buses, honeymooners and suicides are all a contrast to the majestic beauty of the Falls.
It’s a place where strange things happen. It’s also a place I am familiar with as friends and I went on writing retreats at the Loretto Centre for years.
We were peaceful in “the nunnery” as I called it, while a short distance away tour buses pulled up at luxurious hotels. It’s also a place where people live. Olde Ontario, I always think. United Empire Loyalists. Humble cottages sit beside larger places. (more…)

TV and movie star Jessica Simpson to its August concert line-up.
Simpson, whose August 28th show sold out almost immediately when it was

higher than any other debut country single in the history of Billboard’s Hot
Country Songs chart this past spring. Her debut country album will be released

Falling for Niagara
By MARY ALICE POWELL
SPECIAL TO THE BLADE
It’s a wow! It’s a wonder.
Niagara Falls is a magnificent example of Mother Nature at her best, surrounded by hundreds of manmade attractions.
After a ride on the Maid of the Mist boat through the falls, which is a must on almost everyone’s plans, the city of Niagara in Ontario and the surrounding region beckon with many entertainment choices for families.
The Maid of the Mist ride through the thundering waterfalls was the highlight of our three-day visit to Niagara. Each passenger was issued a plastic raincoat with a hood. Even then, those of us who chose to grip the railing for the best view, hold tight to our raincoats, secure the hoods, and protect cameras in plastic bags got drenched. The pounding, rushing falls were closer to the railing than we expected and the mist was heavier than pictures portray. It was a great half-hour adventure, well worth the $12.50 ticket, and even the six-hour drive to cross over the Canadian border into Ontario. (more…)

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y — Nearly three decades had passed when my husband yearned to return to Niagara Falls. At first, I resisted: I’m not fond of wax figurines and bizarre collections.
However, I admit the falls themselves never fail to impress.
So, I reconsidered. My partner and I would go back to the falls. This time, our mission was to scour both sides of the U.S.-Canada border in search of elegant and atypical gems.
The New York side
We decided on historic Lewiston as our home base on the American side. Near the fringes of the Niagara River, Lewiston is minutes north of the Falls.
On a sun-drenched morning, after a restful snooze at the Barton Hill Hotel and Spa, we lounged in the lobby of the newly opened inn. Munching scones bursting with blueberries, we chatted with locals who shared tales of rum-running tunnels, the region’s long heritage with France and Britain and the town’s claim as the birthplace of the cocktail.  (more…)
