Niagara FallsNiagara Falls is familiar, but always new to me. I grew up in the area, but I hadn’t gone in close to ten years. Since ten years is almost half my life, the memories are a little fuzzy, but I’ll never forget the sound. The roar can be heard and felt long before it can be seen, and gets louder with each step. By the time you reach the edge, it’s deafening. But this is an old memory, so on a recent trip home I found myself at Niagara for a fresh look – and they’re still incredible. Every hour, 5 billion gallons of water flow over the edge. The falls are almost 4,000 feet wide all together, and nearly a fourth of all the fresh water on the planet passes this spot. The roar has not changed one bit, and being near them is so powerful you can’t help but be inspired; I am in awe. (more…)
B.C. daredevil plans Niagara Falls stunts

NANAIMO – Vancouver Island daredevil Dean Sullivan has landed a summer job in Niagara Falls, where he is being paid to rappel off a 155-metre tower and break the world record for the longest rappel out of a helicopter.
The stint marks a return for Sullivan, who twice — in 2004 and 2007 — speed-rappelled off the cliffs of the falls.
He made headlines in 2002 when he bungee-jumped off the Lions Gate Bridge at Vancouver’s Stanley Park. He was trying to land on a passing cruise ship, but miscalculated and hit his head. (more…)

Buoyed by several new cultural attractions that have opened — or soon will open — officials from the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau say they are expecting a busy summer tourism season, despite such factors as rising fuel costs and a weak economy.
The Buffalo Niagara region has many pre-booked conventions, amateur sports events and special events that should help fill hotel rooms, restaurants, stores and attractions. On top of that, this summer will see the debut of the M&T Bank Rainforest Falls exhibit at the Buffalo Zoo and the first phase of the rebuilt Inner Harbor project in downtown Buffalo – both of which are expected to attract out-of-town visitors.
“Tourism is an obvious economic generator in Buffalo and an obvious growth industry,” said Richard Geiger, Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau president and CEO. (more…)
