#1 Winter Festival of Lights

When: November 19th, 2016 to January 31, 2017

Viewing the lights are completely free, although donations are appreciated as you exit Dufferin Islands. Suggested donation: $5 – $10 per car and $1 per person on bus tours. All proceeds are used to enhance the Festival’s lights and displays.

The Winter Festival of Lights is Canada’s premiere illumination festival. With over 8KM of sparkling illuminations,free fireworks shows on Friday’s and free sound & lights shows, it’s a great way to get out and enjoy the Holiday season.

#2 “Family Activity Night” at the Niagara Falls History Museum

When: January 5th, 2017 at 7:00 pm 

This is a fun activity night for the whole family that will involve creating “Cookie Cutter Bird Feeders”. Also, every Thursday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 pm admission to the museum is completely free.

#3 Outdoor Skating at Fort George

When: Now until the end of March, 2017 (weather permitting)

Free to the community, a 7,200-square-foot rink was just built at the Fort George parking lot (adjacent to the Agora at Fort George). The rink will operate through the end of March (*weather dependent). Skating is free, but there is a fee for renting skates and anything ordered at the concession stands.

Open Fridays, from 5-9 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 12:30 pm, 2-4 pm and 5-9 pm, and Sunday through Thursday from 10 am. to 12:30 pm and 2-4 pm.

#4 Free Public Skating at the Gale Centre and the Chippawa Arena

Tim Hortons is sponsoring free skating over the Holiday season at the Gale Centre and the Chippawa Arena.

Dates: Thursday, December 29th: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm (Gale Centre), Friday, December 30th: 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm (Gale Centre), 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm (Chippawa Arena), Saturday, December 31st: 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm (Gale Centre),Monday, January 2nd: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm (Gale Centre).

#5 Winter WineFest 2017

When: Friday, January 13th to Sunday, January 15th, 2017

Winter WineFest happens on Main Street in Jordan and brings together Niagara’s top winemakers, chefs and premium VQA wines. Fire pits and warming stations will add some heat and Winter comfort, while enjoying being outdoors and the quaint Jordan Village.

The wine and culinary village is free all weekend.

Friday: 6:00PM to 9:00PM

Saturday: 12:00PM to 9:30PM

Sunday: 12:00PM to 4:00PM

#6 Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine Festival

When: January 21, 2017: 11 am to 5 pm, January 22, 2017: 12 pm to 5 pm

It’s that time of the year that Niagara’s icewine flows! On Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd, Queen Street in Niagara-on-the-Lake will be the scene of a Winter Wonderland. Visit the Icewine Village (admission is free) and appreciate checking out Niagara’s shops, culinary creations from Niagara’s best chefs, and of course — icewine!
