Google Maps Street View hits Niagara Falls and Clifton Hill

Google Maps has recently included Niagara Falls, in their street view virtual interface.

The photo quality is good and shows an interesting view from all sides in most parts of Niagara Falls including Clifton Hill. The full screen mode is very helpful, allowing visitors to see a lot at once, while able to move the image around 360 degrees.

If Street View doesn’t appear, be sure to click the Street View symbol on the left side, which looks like this:street-dude

NIAGARA FALLS, Ont. — A new public skating rink will open next month “a stone’s throw from the brink of the Horseshoe Falls,” say organizers of the Niagara Falls Winter Festival of Lights.

The outdoor Rink at the Brink, two-thirds the size of an NHL rink, will be located across from the newly renovated Table Rock Centre and offer excellent views of the Falls, says a release.

It will be open daily between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. from Nov. 23 to Feb. 28. Skates and helmets will be available for rent, and skating lessons will also be offered.

Admission without skate rental is $8 for adults, $5.75 for children.

“We think it’s going to be a huge hit with both local residents and visitors to Niagara Falls,” said festival chair Joe Miszk.

More riders are feeling the Fury

More riders are feeling the Fury
But the Parks Commission isn’t saying just how many more
Posted By RAY SPITERI REVIEW STAFF WRITER

Ken Wald has experienced virtual reality rides before, but he says few compare with Niagara’s Fury.

“I’ve been to Disneyland and Disney World, but (Niagara’s Fury) had everything you would want in a ride,” said Wald, who was visiting Niagara Falls from Fairview, Alta., Tuesday with his mother and two children.

The family tested out the Niagara Parks Commission’s $7-million moving-theatre attraction, built over the past year as part of an overhaul at Table Rock.

“It was informative, entertaining and had awesome special effects,” said Wald.

That’s pretty much what Joel Noden, the parks commission’s executive director of revenue operations, marketing and business development, has heard about the attraction since its official opening June 22.

“Attendance (to Fury) has increased 20 to 30 per cent every week,” said Noden, who didn’t provide The Niagara Falls Review with exact attendance figures. “It doesn’t matter, young or old, reaction has been fantastic. Last week, I bumped into a lady in her 80s from Cleveland and she … shook my hand and said the attraction was wonderful.” (more…)

NIAGARA FALLS: Nature’s fury re-created in indoor theater

NIAGARA FALLS: Nature’s fury re-created in indoor theater

The biggest challenge in creating a new tourist attraction at Niagara Falls is trying to live up to the main event.

Beyond being breathtaking, the waterfalls are free to look at. That means parks officials must respond to the “we’ve seen the Falls, now what?” question with answers that not only wow but pay the bills.

A newly opened virtual reality show delivers a time-lapse lesson about the 10,000- year formation of the natural wonder complete with glacial snow, pelting rain and rumbling erosion, all building to 360-degree helicopter views unavailable from shore.

The $7 million “Niagara’s Fury” is the star attraction of a $38 million renovation of Niagara Falls’ Table Rock complex of restaurants and shops that ushers visitors to the water’s edge. (more…)

Official opening of Niagara’s Fury a hit with crowd

Official opening of Fury a hit with crowd
Posted By BY COREY LAROCQUE REVIEW STAFF WRITER

When his two-year-old twin sons and a crowd from the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara “survived” Niagara’s Fury, Peter Fonseca declared the new attraction a winner.

“You get the thumbs up from kids, you know you’re right,” said Fonseca, Ontario’s minister of tourism, himself the parent of young children.

Fonseca, his wife, Christina, and their sons Alexander and Sebastian were among the first visitors to test out the Niagara Parks Commission’s $7-million moving-theatre attraction, built over the past year as part of an overhaul of Table Rock House. It began operating in the spring, but officially opened Sunday.

The moving theatre attraction takes visitors on a ride through history, explaining the formation of Niagara Falls from the Ice Age, geological changes and the erosive effect of water over thousands of years. (more…)

Niagara Parks nixes marketing deal with Imax

Parks nixes marketing deal with Imax
Proposal rejected in meeting held behind closed-doors
Posted By BY COREY LAROCQUE REVIEW STAFF WRITER

The Niagara Parks Commission won’t play favourites by making a marketing deal with the Imax theatre it wouldn’t make with another attraction, says chairman Jim Williams.

“In other words, we’re not going to treat them with any special consideration,” he said in an interview Friday.

Imax Niagara Falls had proposed promoting each other’s properties because the commission’s newest attraction, Niagara’s Fury, will compete with the 23-year-old theatre on Fallsview Boulevard.

In a private meeting Friday, the Niagara Parks Commission rejected a proposal from Destination Cinema, Imax’s Utah-based parent company, to hand out discount coupons at each site to encourage tourists to visit the other. (more…)
