More riders are feeling the Fury

More riders are feeling the Fury
But the Parks Commission isn’t saying just how many more
Posted By RAY SPITERI REVIEW STAFF WRITER

Ken Wald has experienced virtual reality rides before, but he says few compare with Niagara’s Fury.

“I’ve been to Disneyland and Disney World, but (Niagara’s Fury) had everything you would want in a ride,” said Wald, who was visiting Niagara Falls from Fairview, Alta., Tuesday with his mother and two children.

The family tested out the Niagara Parks Commission’s $7-million moving-theatre attraction, built over the past year as part of an overhaul at Table Rock.

“It was informative, entertaining and had awesome special effects,” said Wald.

That’s pretty much what Joel Noden, the parks commission’s executive director of revenue operations, marketing and business development, has heard about the attraction since its official opening June 22.

“Attendance (to Fury) has increased 20 to 30 per cent every week,” said Noden, who didn’t provide The Niagara Falls Review with exact attendance figures. “It doesn’t matter, young or old, reaction has been fantastic. Last week, I bumped into a lady in her 80s from Cleveland and she … shook my hand and said the attraction was wonderful.” (more…)

NIAGARA FALLS: Nature’s fury re-created in indoor theater

NIAGARA FALLS: Nature’s fury re-created in indoor theater
The Associated Press

The biggest challenge in creating a new tourist attraction at Niagara Falls is trying to live up to the main event.

Beyond being breathtaking, the waterfalls are free to look at. That means parks officials must respond to the “we’ve seen the Falls, now what?” question with answers that not only wow but pay the bills.

A newly opened virtual reality show delivers a time-lapse lesson about the 10,000- year formation of the natural wonder complete with glacial snow, pelting rain and rumbling erosion, all building to 360-degree helicopter views unavailable from shore.

The $7 million “Niagara’s Fury” is the star attraction of a $38 million renovation of Niagara Falls’ Table Rock complex of restaurants and shops that ushers visitors to the water’s edge. (more…)

Minister of Tourism, Peter Fonseca, joins the Boys and Girls Club of Canada to officially open The Niagara Parks Commission’s Niagara’s Fury(TM)

One of the most dramatic and immersive attractions arrives in Niagara Falls
NIAGARA FALLS, ON, June 22 /CNW/ – After years in the making, months of
speculation and interest from around the globe, The Niagara Parks Commission
(NPC) today officially celebrated the opening of its newest attraction
Niagara’s Fury. Ontario Minister of Tourism, Peter Fonseca, was joined by NPC
Chairman Jim Williams, Niagara MPP Kim Craitor, Niagara Falls Mayor Ted Salci
and children from the Boys and Girls Club of Canada to help mark the grand
opening of this spectacular, new attraction that allows you to experience the
extreme, violent and beautiful birth of Niagara Falls in a way you’ve never
dreamed possible.

According to NPC Chairman Jim Williams “We’re confident Niagara’s Fury
will provide that exciting, educational and interactive experience our
visitors have been looking for when they visit Niagara today. And who better
to tell the dramatic story of Niagara than NPC, an agency dedicated to the
preservation and enhancement of the Falls and the entire Niagara River
Corridor for future generations.” (more…)

Official opening of Fury a hit with crowd
Posted By BY COREY LAROCQUE REVIEW STAFF WRITER

When his two-year-old twin sons and a crowd from the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara “survived” Niagara’s Fury, Peter Fonseca declared the new attraction a winner.

“You get the thumbs up from kids, you know you’re right,” said Fonseca, Ontario’s minister of tourism, himself the parent of young children.

Fonseca, his wife, Christina, and their sons Alexander and Sebastian were among the first visitors to test out the Niagara Parks Commission’s $7-million moving-theatre attraction, built over the past year as part of an overhaul of Table Rock House. It began operating in the spring, but officially opened Sunday.

The moving theatre attraction takes visitors on a ride through history, explaining the formation of Niagara Falls from the Ice Age, geological changes and the erosive effect of water over thousands of years. (more…)

Parks nixes marketing deal with Imax
Proposal rejected in meeting held behind closed-doors
Posted By BY COREY LAROCQUE REVIEW STAFF WRITER

The Niagara Parks Commission won’t play favourites by making a marketing deal with the Imax theatre it wouldn’t make with another attraction, says chairman Jim Williams.

“In other words, we’re not going to treat them with any special consideration,” he said in an interview Friday.

Imax Niagara Falls had proposed promoting each other’s properties because the commission’s newest attraction, Niagara’s Fury, will compete with the 23-year-old theatre on Fallsview Boulevard.

In a private meeting Friday, the Niagara Parks Commission rejected a proposal from Destination Cinema, Imax’s Utah-based parent company, to hand out discount coupons at each site to encourage tourists to visit the other. (more…)

Parks’ attraction draws flak from Imax competitor
CEO has ‘very serious concerns’ about impact on theatre
Posted By BY COREY LAROCQUE REVIEW STAFF WRITER

The Niagara Parks Commission’s newest attraction has raised the fury of the owners of the Imax Theatre in Niagara Falls, who are worried about the impact Niagara’s Fury will have on their business.

“We’re in a very direct, competitive situation with the Fury,” said Bob Perkins, chief executive officer of Destination Cinema. The Utah-based company owns Imax Niagara Falls and five other theatres in North America.

“We have serious concerns regarding ‘Niagara’s Fury’ attraction and how that attraction will harm our business,” Perkins wrote in a June 6 letter to Niagara Parks Commission chairman Jim Williams, a copy of which was obtained by The Review.

His company wants to make a deal with the commission to be included on the adventure pass, a one-price ticket that gives tourists admission to numerous attractions. (more…)

Face to face with Niagara’s Fury

Face to face with The Fury
I’d seen images of great chunks of ice crashing down from glaciers and aerial views of Niagara Falls…
Posted By JENNIFER PELLEGRINI

After months of top-secret meetings, covert conversations and stories telling

Niagara residents what’s going on at the top floor of Table Rock, it all came down to 15 minutes for me this week.

Ready or not, I was going on Niagara’s Fury.

I was ready. But there are still a few bugs being worked out of the tech-heavy show, meaning although I was able to get on along with members of the public, I wouldn’t be getting the full impact of the show as it’s expected to be at Sunday’s grand opening.

Stepping into the pre-show area, I line up at the back wall to get the maximum view of the screen. Unlike inside the attraction itself -which has a 360-degree circular screen – the screen for the pre-show is much like you’d find at the local Cineplex. (more…)

Niagara’s Fury unleashed … finally

Niagara’s Fury unleashed … finally
Posted By BY JENNIFER PELLEGRINI REVIEW STAFF WRITER

Niagara’s Fury has finally blown into town.

Nearly two weeks after the Niagara Parks Commission’s newest attraction was scheduled to open, the first round of survivors made their way into the massive 4-D theatre Saturday morning.

Joel Noden, executive director of revenue operations and business at the Niagara Parks Commission, attributed the delay in getting Niagara’s Fury up and running to getting Technical Standards and Safety Authority approval to operate the ride.

“Getting the paperwork together, getting the approval and getting the inspector in (took a lot of time),” Noden said. “By the time you play phone tag six times …. it was just kind of back and forth. (The final inspection) literally took 10 minutes on Friday afternoon.” (more…)

Fury opening still on hold
Parks attraction could be ready Saturday
Posted By BY REVIEW STAFF

It’s looking more like Saturday before Niagara’s Fury opens to the public.

The Niagara Parks Commission hopes to have a ride inspector visit Table Rock sometime today to sign off on the highly-anticipated 4-D attraction, said executive director of revenue operations and business Joel Noden.

The ride had been expected to open today, but Noden called such a scenario “highly unlikely.”

“It looks more like a Saturday opening,” he said. (more…)
