Niagara Falls Hosts Clarkson Cup 2012

March 19, 2012

Clarkson Cup 2012 Comes to Niagara Falls

Are you one of thousands of hockey fans who will be flooding Niagara Falls this week for Clarkson Cup Action?

Named after former Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson the women’s version of the Stanley Cup will reign over the falls from March 22nd to the 25th.  Teams from all over North America will be battling it out at the Gale arena round robin style. The top two teams will go head to head for the championship title. Montreal will be looking to repeat last years win against the Toronto Furies when TSN broadcasts the final game.  Between 20 to 30 Olympians such as Caroline Ouellette, Tessa Bonhomme, and Meghan Agosta will be in Niagara Falls, hopefully they have time to unwind on Clifton Hill.

There are plenty of attractions to keep busy with between or after games.  Tournaments can get hectic so it may be nice to relax with a ride on our world famous SkyWheel.  Soaring 175 feet (53 meters) over the Niagara Falls horizon you can get many memorable pictures from the fully enclosed gondolas.

We are looking ahead to another great week of weather for the Niagara region.  When you’re not in the cold arena, get into the sun and try your hand at a game of Dinosaur Adventure Golf.  As one of the newest attractions along the hill this mini putt is like walking into the age of the Dinosaur.  The fully functional volcano, realistic characters and sound effects will get you excited as you play the 18 hole course.

Boston Pizza is a great place to take a break.  Enjoy some great food with the family, and maintain the sporty atmosphere.  The kids will not get bored with wall-to-wall arcades, and our Strike Rock and Bowl entertainment centre.  Some ways you can save a few dollars while you are visiting is by picking up hotel packages and attraction passes.  The Clifton Hill Fun Pass is a great way to go for any family to save money on the most popular attractions.

Find out more ways to save, and all the fun things there are to see and do at www.cliftonhill.com

Niagara Falls Tourism launches new website

The Niagara Falls Tourism Bureau in Niagara Falls, Canada has just recently launched an all new website!

Their Web Design company, 180 Marketing in St. Catharines, did an outstanding job with the new web design. This new site is a huge improvement from the previous version, which was saturated with banner ads, hard on the eyes (too many reddish colors), and had some navigational issues.

Click Here to Visit Niagara Falls Tourism’s Official Site

The new site has some great features, which include:
-Dynamic animated splash page
-Much larger photography in each main category
-Simplified and effective menu navigation
-New Vacation Planning Section (eg. MyNiagaraFalls)
-Effective navigational drop down menus with zoom out
-High end video presentation section (eg. FallsTV)
-Balanced use of color

Niagara Falls to be featured on Extreme Makeover Home Edition this Sunday

December 5, 2008

According to Niagara Falls Tourism, Niagara Falls will be featured on Extreme Makeover Home Edition this weekend. The episode is airing this Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 8PM EST.

This past Wednesday it was also reported by the Albert Lea Tribune of Hayward,

“Extreme Makeover” producers knocked on the door of the DeVries family on Sept. 30. The next day they were sent on a vacation to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Larson Contracting and volunteer workers demolished their house Oct. 2 and began building a new home in about 100 hours. The house was finished on Oct. 5, and the keys to the new house were handed over Oct. 6. On Oct. 7 — the big day — the rain-soaked crowd of onlookers hollered, “Move that bus!” while the DeVrieses stood wide-eyed and open-mouthed at the surprise of seeing their new house. On Oct. 8, the family received more gifts from the community, including a new Ford pickup from Poet and ethanol producers.

Destination marketing fee examined

August 13, 2008

Printed from the Review

Some places charge it, some don’t. The province doesn’t see the city as a place that should have it. And payment is voluntary (but few people know about that part).
Posted By JENNIFER PELLEGRINI, REVIEW STAFF WRITER

This is the first in a two-part series examining the controversial destination marketing fee charged by some Niagara Falls businesses.

Guests staying at Fallsview hotels like the Embassy Suites and Hilton, as well as motels like the Blue Moon and Candlelight Motor Inn a little further afield, see a three per cent destination marketing fee added to the pre-tax room rate on their bill.

Guests at the Great Wolf Lodge and the Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort, however, do not.

Diners at Applebee’s and TGI Fridays in the city’s tourist sections have the extra charge added to their bills.

Those who eat at Niagara Parks Commission properties only pay the applicable government taxes.

Pick up a T-shirt or trinket at Souvenir City on River Road or the Fallsview Mini Mart and pay a premium; be spared the extra change at Jo-An Souvenirs on Victoria Avenue.

Golf at the Grand Niagara, Eagle Valley or Willowdell and there’s no charge added to your green fee.

At Thundering Waters, you’re charged three per cent more.

Ask what the charge is for, and expect to be told anything from, “It’s a Niagara Falls tax” to “It pays for the lights and the fireworks at the falls.”  (more…)

Review your source for Fury details
Posted By JENNIFER PELLEGRINI and RAY SPITERI

The Niagara Parks Commission has rolled out its latest teaser for Niagara’s Fury.

A short video clip – found online at www.niagarasfury .com – shows a weatherman predicting “catastrophic activity … cataclysmic flooding and glacial devastation” in the Niagara Region.

It cuts over to a live-on-the-scene reporter in a blinding snowstorm being swept away.

The screen then asks: Niagara’s Fury. Will you survive? (more…)

Reality show focuses on Queen Street future
Posted By JOHN LAW

Like everyone else downtown, Todd Van Eyk and Paul Lacroix want to revive Queen Street.

But instead of a bulldozer, they’re armed with a video camera.

The Welland duo behind Van Eyk Media set up shop in The Mews on Queen Street six months ago, and immediately started documenting their surroundings for the online reality show “Flip The Street” (alternate title: “Dynamite Downtown”).

The reason was simple, says Lacroix: Contrary to rumours of its demise, downtown is on the verge of big things. And he wants to film every second of it. (more…)

THESE ARE OUR FALLS

A Disney-produced video promoting U.S. tourism and welcoming foreign visitors to America – that appears to claim the Horseshoe Falls as American property – has caught the eye of some community leaders.

And they aren’t happy.

About four minutes into a seven-minute promotional video titled: “Welcome: Portraits of America,” viewers are treated to the impressive sight and sound of water roaring over Niagara Falls. (more…)
