Big event planned for church’s ‘little flower’

Hundreds of people are expected to converge on the picturesque grounds of the Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre on Saturday to celebrate the Feast of St. Therese.

St. Therese of Lisieux, affectionately known as “the little flower,” is one of the most popular Catholic saints.

“She is one of our saints who has captured the imagination of our Catholic hearts,” Rev. Stan Makacinas, director of the Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre.

“You cannot go in to a Catholic church without finding a statue of her.”

Today, more than 1,800 churches worldwide bear her name.

Born in 1873, Therese Martin received special permission to join the Carmelite order when she was only 15. (more…)

The Brothers of Mount Carmel

They are prayerful and prophetic. Active and reflective – very much in love with God and humanity.

They are Carmelites, a Roman Catholic religious order.

A small, but passionate and dedicated Carmelite group calls Niagara Falls home – the picturesque and serene Mount Carmel Spiritual Centre, along Stanley Avenue.

From that castle-like structure, surrounded by the roar of the falls, six Carmelite priests and one religious brother follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, listening to God’s voice within and engaging and sharing it compassionately with His people in the community.

Two more Carmelite priests live out their devotion to the Church from a house next to St. Patrick Priory and Parish on Victoria Avenue. (more…)
