Some quick stick-handling by Mayor Jim Diodati has brought Hockey Canada back onside for a rally to support the Canadian junior hockey squad as it heads into the world junior IIHF tournament at the end of the month.

“It’s back on track. It’s happening,” Diodati said during Monday’s council meeting, only a few hours after smoothing things over with Scott Salmond, Hockey Canada’s national teams director.

Hockey Canada, the organization that oversees the national junior program, scrapped the rally last week after a disagreement with Winter Festival of Lights organizers over plans to charge people $10 admission and sell sponsorships.

A last-minute conversation with a Hockey Canada official Monday saved the Dec. 24 rally. (more…)

October 1-2, 2010 marks the largest skate contest to hit Canada in 2010 with the West 49 Take the Cake Presented by Schick Xtreme 3 and the Axe Twist Amateur Open. This is Canada’s largest cash purse event in Canadian skateboarding history with $100,000.00 CDN in prize money being awarded. Fifteen of the world’s best international skaters will descend on the Oakes Garden Theatre in Niagara Falls on Oct 1st and 2nd to showcase their tricks on a best trick stair set up.

Thanks to some of the great brand partnerships, confirmed to attend this explosive event are : Paul Rodriguez “P-Rod” (Plan B), Chaz Ortiz (Zoo York), Alex Olson (Quiksilver), Torey Pudwill (DVS), Sierra Fellers (C1RCA), Matt Miller (DC), Corey Duffel (OSIRIS), Darrell Stanton (ELEMENT), Chima Ferguson (Volcom), Paul Trep (RDS), Grant Patterson (Redst*r), Shuriken Shannon (Billabong), Brandon Westgate (Emerica), and Tom Asta (Fallen) are all coming to compete. The two day event is an outdoor event with Niagara Falls in the backdrop and showcases a live performance by Canadian hip hop musician SHAD.

Pink comes to Niagara Falls to help launch Hart and Huntington Tattoo

Before she got the party started Saturday night, pop star Pink had her eye on Niagara Falls.
“It’s my second time here,” said one of the top-selling female singers of the past decade.

“I went on the Maid of the Mist last time. I was considering the barrel this time.”

With hits like So What and Trouble, the 30-year-old Pink — real name, Alecia Moore — was in town for the grand opening of husband Carey Hart’s first Canadian location of his Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. chain. The couple were greeted by hundreds of fans gathered at a VIP reception at Margaritaville.

NIAGARA FALLS — For Patrick Kane there was no better place in Western New York for him to take the Stanley Cup than Niagara Falls.

Kane’s stint with Cup to begin at Niagara Falls

The Buffalo News reports: Patrick Kane will get an early start Friday on his first day with the Stanley Cup. The Blackhawks star will bring the Cup to the Cave of the Winds in Niagara Falls State Park on the Hurricane Deck at 8:30 a.m.

Afterward, Kane will meet with pediatric and adult cancer patients and thank local steelworkers for their painted tribute “(Buzz) Pat Kane Wins Stanley Cup” on a sixth-floor steel beam of a building under construction behind Buffalo General Hospital.

Pink to join hubby for grand opening of Hart & Huntington in Niagara Falls

Renowned motocross racer and tattoo guru Carey Hart is coming to town. And he’s bringing his wife with him.  That would be pop star Pink.

The couple will in Niagara Falls Saturday, Aug. 21, to mark the grand opening of the Hart & Huntington Tattoo Co. on Fallsview Boulevard. A full day of events are planned, capped by a red carpet after-party at Margaritaville at 9:30 p.m. Other celebrities are expected to attend.

A ribbon-cutting at noon will be followed by live music, skateboard and BMX demonstrations, and an autograph session with Hart. The after-party at Margaritaville is for those 19 or over. Tickets can purchased at Hart & Huntington. (more)

Styx, Glass Tiger headline New Year’s show

Legendary rockers Styx and the Canadian group Glass Tiger will take to the stage on New Year’s Eve in Queen Victoria Park near the falls.

The Niagara Parks Commission released its lineup for the popular televised concert Tuesday afternoon.

“Niagara will be the place to be on New Year’s Eve,” said commission chairman Jim Williams. “It really is exciting to see the city come alive on this special night.”

The New Year’s Eve concert, which attracts up to 30,000 people to Queen Victoria Park, is a nationally televised event.

Also performing will be Moeraes Fate, the winner of this summer’s inaugural youDiscover music competition (at the time, the band was known as Dame), as well as runner-up Robyn Dell’ Unto. (more…)

With the possibility of a federal election this fall, Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a campaign- like stop in Niagara Thursday, visiting three locations his government has poured millions of dollars into recently.

Harper joined Niagara Falls MP Rob Nicholson in touring the construction site of the new Niagara Convention and Civic Centre, the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge and the Shaw Festival Theatre. (more…)
