The New Stuff

Bring the kids to Niagara Falls on Family Day!

A year ago on this month, I was on maternity leave with my son. The weather was too cold to bring myself the motivation to bundle us both up and load the diaper bag for yet another walk around the mall. My husband was working insane hours and finances were too tight to spend a fortune on daily outings with my then 11 month old bundle of energy. So here I was again, taking a stroll to the local coffee shop and window shopping from store to store to take my mind off the ho-hum monotony on another February afternoon. You want to spend time with your family, you want to engage your kids in something outside the box, and now Family Day is drawing near and you actually want to take part in something that your community has to offer…that doesn’t drill a hole in your pocket and can stimulate the minds of both you, your spouse and your children. Do you really want to watch “Cars” again and order Chinese in? If your answer is a resounding NO, then read on.

The Niagara Falls History Museum is having a FREE 1812 Adventure on Monday, February 18th from 1-4 pm. There are activities for the whole family such as a Scavenger Hunt, Food Demonstrations, Drumming and Dancing, Children’s Activities, 1812 Dessert Samples and a Marshmellow Roast! You must dress for the weather as many activities are outdoors. Contact 905-358-5082 or nfhmuseum@niagarafalls.ca for more information. The museum is located at 5810 Ferry Street and will truly take you back on a remarkable journey to experience a peice of Canadian History.

When you are ready to partake on something new, time travel yourself right back to the current day by warming up on Clifton Hill. The Great Canadian Midway offers 70,000 square feet of fun for all ages featuring more then 300 games to choose from! And don’t forget to try out the all new XD Ride Theatre! It’s a 6-Dimensional Cosmic Coaster where you’re lifting and turning, moving and twisting all to elaborate scenery! The arcade is the perfect family-friendly, cost efficient place to go on Family Day. The Great Canadian Midway is also open until the wee hours of the morning, so timing shouldn’t be an issue.

There is really no excuse not to get out and enjoy Family Day on a budget. The main objective is to find one location that can satisify all your needs and save on admission costs, transportation and meals. They are out there and Niagara Falls with kids is the perfect place to go on a whim for the day rather than strapping the kids in the stroller for another aimless walk around the block…
