City seeks ‘practical solutions’ for GO service

from the Niagara Falls Review

By COREY LAROCQUE , REVIEW STAFF WRITER

Niagara Falls needs “practical solutions” that will allow GO Transit to extend its regular train service to the Honeymoon Capital without breaking the bank to build a new $1-billion train bridge over the Welland Canal or a new tunnel under it, Mayor Ted Salci says.

” I think it would be a huge waste of taxpayers’ dollars. I don’t know where those figures came from, but $1 billion — that’s another Skyway in my mind,” Salci said Friday after news reports that estimated it would cost that much for a bridge or tunnel so GO trains don’t have to wait for ships on the canal.
