I agree with the previous post about GO Transit. The QEW from Toronto to Niagara is a dreadful drive. People need to have reasonable and affordable alternatives to driving on the QEW.

While third world countries are planning and building high-speed trains, in many parts of this country priority is still given to freight trains. This needs to change and it needs to change soon.

The problem, as I understand it, is that CN and CP still own many of the lines, and want to maintain freight train priority for their profitable freight operations.

So, in my humble opinion, governments need to (1) start buying up the tracks and the right of ways (2) move swiftly to electrify the railways and (3) plan immediately for high speed trains.

We are supposed to be one of the world's leading industrial nations. But judging by our inadequate passenger rail services, we are behind many other lesser developed countries in the world.

This is a commendable move. More commendable would be to start GO weekdays as well, followed by the electrification of the system. The technology is available and elctric trains are in use around the world and underground in North America.
With the urgency expressed about global warming it's time to switch and get people used to riding the rails in quiet comfort.
