Local News – Famed wirewalker Jay Cochrane may make a “brief walk” during a press
conference scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
Time and weather permitting, Cochrane will step out onto a 1,000-foot-long
wire stretched between two 20-storey high towers near the Skylon Tower
sometime during the press conference, which is scheduled for 1 p.m.,
according to Skylon Tower spokesman Lee Carr.
The first of 132 full performances by Cochrane, one of the world’s most
celebrated high-wire performers, is scheduled to take place Saturday at 4
p.m.
From Saturday on, it’s planned Cochrane will make two wire walks a day,
seven days a week, until Sept. 3.
Each performance lasts 20 to 30 minutes.
During his 10-week schedule, it’s estimated Cochrane will spend the
equivalent of three days atop the wire.
Spectators will also have an opportunity to visit with Cochrane twice a day
at Dare at the Jay Cochrane Dare Devil Gallery, located inside the Skylon
Tower.
The events are free. Donations will be accepted in support of the local
branch of the Tender Wishes Foundation.
