Niagara Square roars back
NIAGARA FALLS — When it was announced last fall four new big box stores were moving into Niagara Square, property manager Kathy McRae said the additions were going to usher in a new era, a rebirth of sorts, for the formerly struggling mall. And Friday’s grand opening for the four new stores, Future Shop, Winners, Linens ‘n Things and Petcetera, was called the beginning of a new and better Niagara Square as RioCan, the mall’s new owner, announced six new stores will open in the next year, including a 94,000-square-foot Canadian Tire.
“I’m so excited,” said McRae. “We’ve just got clearance to say it.”
Construction on the new Canadian Tire, slated for the northwest corner of the property near the Cineplex Odeon cinemas, is expected to begin in the spring with an anticipated summer 2007 opening. There are currently two Canadian Tires with Canadian Tire Gas Bars elsewhere in the city, including one on McLeod Road not far from Niagara Square.

Niagara Square desparately needed this. At times it seemed like the movie theatre was the only thing propping up that place. St. Catharines has been getting too much of Niagara Falls’ retail business. Great timing, just before the major holidays.

I agree, all of Niagara Square should see a large increase in sales this holiday season.
