On July 24, 2008, the City of Welland will officially celebrate its 150th Anniversary as an incorporated municipality. Anniversary Weekend events include:

July 24  -              Governor General Gala - the Governor General has been invited to join the 150th Anniversary celebrations.  We are awaiting a reply to the invitation!

Fireworks - A special display of fireworks for the 150th Anniversary.

Official proclamation of Welland’s Incorporation as a municipality.

July 25  -               Street Dance

Mayor’s Challenge - exact details of the challenge are not being disclosed, however, it will take place partially on the Welland Canal.

Photo Displays and Projection - Photos from the past 150 years of Welland will be on display at several locations.  There will also be an outdoor video projection of photos.

July 26 - 27 -      Kids Day in the Park - A fun-filled day for children at Merritt Park.  There will be inflatables, games, clowns, a magician, peddle boats on the canal and more!

The City of Niagara Falls Canada Day Committee is planning a very special Canada Day Celebration for 2008 including some old favorites as well as new attractions. Among the activities planned is a pancake breakfast hosted by Mayor Ted Salci, followed by a parade starting at 10:00 a.m., Opening Ceremonies, three stages of entertainment, an antique car show and up to 100 community displays. Top local talent will be featured this year with something for all ages and interests!
